Pure Smile Yokai Face Mask - Retail Value $3.99? (value based on similar items)
Kira Kira's evergreen product, Pure Smile, always makes an appearance in each box. This month it comes in the form of this yokai face mask. Yokai are a class of supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons in Japanese folklore, and a ghost design is actually printed on the mask sheet. For such a kitschy product, results were actually impressive. Thanks to the vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and collagen, my skin felt soft and moisturized after leaving the sheet on for 15 minutes.
Malibu Beauty 2-in-1 Mascara and Eyeliner, Purple Glitter - Retail Value $8.00?
The design of this purple glitter eyeliner/mascara wand is pretty cool! The felt tip is actually attached to the end of the brush of the mascara wand. While the product's design is surprisingly innovation to me, the formula was a bit disappointing. The glitter is pretty sparse. However, its particles are fine and the deep purple shade is really flattering. I layered this over black liner and mascara to create a multidimensional twinkling effect that's perfect for a fun evening look!
Little Cat Bubble Bath and Body Wash - Retail Value $2.00?
Check out that adorable bottle! It's a shame that it wasn't as practical as it was cute. I had a really rough time getting the gel into my bath. After some struggling, I found that the gel didn't do a whole lot of bubbling anyway. The best thing about this item was the pleasant orange scent that it gave my bath water.
Yuzu Skin Lotion - Retail Value $16.00? (value based on similar items)
This "lotion" is actually extremely liquidy, making application pretty interesting. It's sort of a watery toner-meets-moisturizer: really great for face or body hydration for someone who dislikes thick, greasy products. I found that it did a good job of moisturizing the skin, but the thin consistency threw me off a bit. The method that I found works best was to pump the product directly onto the area that you're looking to moisturize and then immediately massage into the skin. I guess I prefer the creaminess of a lotion, though.
Malibu Face Paint, Green and Yellow - Retail Value $2.00?
This green and yellow paint stick was definitely included with Halloween in mind, but the pigmentation is smooth enough that I could see it working for a fun night-out look beyond the spooky season. The yellow is especially unique. I tried it as an eyeshadow base on my lids and topped it with gold shadow for a super bold look. The paint did wind up creasing a bit, but so I'd advise using a good primer if you want to try it yourself.
Here are both products swatched!
Eyebrow Shaver with Mirror - Retail Value $2.00?
Okay, while I love the cute heart-shaped mirror on the end of this shaver tool, the blade aspect really freaked me out. I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable with shaving part of my brows, and, to be honest, I prefer an unruly, full brow look. Slightly unkempt seems to be in right now anyway! However, if super groomed brows are your thing, it's pretty convenient that this pen-like wand has a little comb and build in mirror for on-the-go touch-ups.
Verdict: This month's Kira Kira crate was a total mixed bag. Some of these items weren't products that I'd be excited about on their own, and some of them simply fell short. My favorite product was probably the "lotion" despite it being pretty difficult to apply. At $29.00, I don't know that this box was worth it to me. However, many of the items couldn't be found online, so calculating the true value leaves a bit of grey area.
