Every year, KiwiCo has a special offering of holiday crates, and they are awesome! We buy them every year! They make excellent decorations, and often excellent gifts, too! My eleven-year-old son and I were especially excited to have the opportunity to review this special Tinker Crate (one of the boxes in the KiwiCo family) this year.

This is the project booklet for our luminary! Please note that the holiday crates do not come with a copy of Tinkerzine magazine.

Here's a peek inside the instructions. They may look a little intimidating, but they are always very clear, complete, and easy-to-follow.

These were the materials Tinker Crate supplied for the project. Everything we needed was included.

My son's first step was to assemble the battery pack. Then he inserted the LED bulb into the lid of the base and connected the wiring.

Next, he assembled the base with wooden inserts and sticky foam pieces.

His next step was to decorate the tree! So festive! It's clear, so I apologize that it' a little hard to see.

Finally, he simply put all three pieces together by basically sliding them into the notches provided.

And here it is completed! It's so pretty!

The Verdict: We love Tinker Crate! This holiday project turned out so great! I think this will be a wonderful part of our Christmas decor this year! I also really love that the kids get to participate in holiday preparations in such a meaningful way. Happy holidays!

While that is kinda cute, I don’t really see what the STEM learning here is. Plugging in the two ends of an LED light to two wires coming out of the battery?
