Moondani Natural Breath Mint in Mystical Mint, 0.17 fl oz – Retail Value $12.99, Listed Value $9.00 (found on sale here for $8.50)
I’ve never thought to purchase breath mist, but it’s one of those that I’ve found myself wanting on hand from time to time. Needless to say, I was excited to see this mist in my box this month. I had a bit of trouble in triggering the top of the spray mechanism, but the button worked without hassle after a few forceful pushes. The mist is very strong. Its pungent mint taste is exactly what you want from a breath mist, and I found that it cleansed my breath quite well! Also, I can’t get over the flavor name -- ‘Mystical Mint!’
Munch Rights Incredi-Puffs Cinnamon Apple, 0.74 oz. - Buy a case of a similar item for $18
These light and subtly sweet snaps really got me in the fall spirit. They sort of remind me of apple pie meets cheese puff (but vegan, of course... and healthy...). These would make a great snack for kids lunches or a nice accompaniment to a sandwich or something savory!
Natierra Chia Crunch Blueberry, 0.7 oz. - Retail Value $4.37
Mmm, I love the texture of chia seeds, and these really delivered on the crunch. The blueberry flavor is nice too. These really taste like dehydrated fruit with a bit of a 'sliminess', for lack of a better term, that you get from chia seeds. At $4.37 a bag, though, the price is absurd to me. Plus, these are not a substantial snack by any means, so don't expect to be satisfied if you're hungry.
Buddha Bowl Foods Himalayan Pink Organic Popcorn, 0.46 oz. - Buy a 5 oz. bag for $2.89
This popcorn was really great! Nothing special, but tasty! I love that it uses extra virgin organic coconut oil, organic popcorn kernels, and Himalayan sea salt.
Navitas Maca Maple Nut Bar, 1.4 oz. - Buy 12 bars for $26.41
Hearty and very filling, this nutty bar is a really nice on-the-go snack or even breakfast option. Nut bars can often be very dry, but this one is moist and chewy with just a bit of crunch from the large nut pieces. I really enjoyed the maple flavor as well. UrthBox definitely came through with the autumnal spirit here!
Bio-Coffee, 1 satchel (20 g) - Buy a box of 16 satchels for $26.00
This instant coffee company boasts that it's the only alkaline coffee on the market and is -- *gasp -- caffeine free. It also claims to contain 3-5 servings of green veggies in each cup. SO. COOL. I was expecting this to taste very different from the coffee that I'm used to, but it really didn't. It was great! And, it could have been a placebo effect, but I did feel more energized after drinking. My only issues were that the granules took awhile to dissolve and that the satchels are pretty pricey.
Pure Goodness Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt Bar, 0.88 oz.
Another bar, but I'm not complaining since I really enjoy this form of snack. This one is sweeter than the Maca. It has a stickier consistency making it a bit heavier on the chewy side. This would be a great to have on hand for dessert cravings.
Verdict: UrthBox is really wonderful if you're looking to try out vegan snacks from various brands that might not be readily available to you in your local supermarket. This month definitely skewed on the sweet side, as have recent boxes, but pretty okay with that.
For $19.99, I received 7 items at a value of $2.86 per snack. Considering the small portions of most items, I'm not sure that this is entirely worth it. The Chia Crunch was especially expensive. That said, this box is nice for adventurous vegans and healthy snackers -- especially if you don't have access to these types of foods in your area or simply appreciate the convenience of receiving several options monthly.
