This month's theme is "Gratitude." The info card encourages us to take this bleak time of year, when beauty is less abundant outdoors, as an opportunity to look within and identify what the past year has brought us for which to be grateful.
Each month there is a Yogi Surprise Sequence included. This month's sequence features poses that even Level 1 yogis should be familiar with. It's not often that I start out my practice with tree pose, it was interesting to play with balance so early in my practice!
There's also a card advertising a yoga retreat giveaway. This month's retreat is a yoga and soul healing getaway in Panama. Dreamy! Finally...SPOILER ALERT:
...a peek at what's to come in December's box!
Jivana Skin Balancing Treatment Oil, 1 oz - Retail Value $22
This lovely oil blend is from Jivana, a brand that incorporates Ayurveda into its every product and product experience. This facial serum, for example, is geared toward the pitta mind-body type (known as "dosha"). Those who are pitta-dominant may find they have inflammatory and reactive-prone skin, and this blend is specially formulated to soothe those qualities. Scent-wise, it's very light and subtle with a fresh overtone and a hint of sweetness, seemingly from the honeysuckle. It's a somewhat thin oil that absorbs into the skin readily.
This serum is handmade in small batches and cruelty-free. Hooray!
They included a little Ayurveda info and coupon for this brand in the box, too.
Pacifica Roll-On Perfume Oil, 0.33 oz. - Retail Value $14
This roll-on perfume comes in the most mesmerizing packaging! The iridescent jewels printed all over are so, so beautiful! As for the product itself, this perfume oil offers a scent called "dream state." It's a combo of jasmine, lemon, and amethyst aromas and has a strong floral smell to it. What a delightful, springy touch to this cold, dark season!
This perfume is handmade in small batches, vegan, and cruelty-free. Yay again!
The Batik Boutique Cardholder With Key Ring — Retail Value $26
This blue-Shibori-meets-faux-leather zipper pouch wasn't available on The Batik Boutique's website, so I linked to another colorway. It's of nice quality in that its zipper is smooth and it's lined, but I was still surprised to realize that this is the most expensive item in this month's box. I can't imagine attaching its key ring to my actual keys, but I suppose one could get creative with what to clip it to! I have found over the years that I don't have much use for coin purses like this in my life, but it would make a great gift for my fellow hippie cousin.
Rickaroons Pumpkin Spice Coconut Energy Bar - Listed Value $2.50 (Buy a box of 12 for $25)
Oh, man is this snack delish! This is seasonal flavor incorporates cinnamon, ginger, and dark chocolate into the classic coconut energy puck, and its flavor is wonderfully rich. Unlike many other pumpkin spice treats of the season, this one isn't overly sweet and has a really intriguing depth of flavor. The dark chocolate adds a slight bitterness and texture to break up the sort-of-cake-like-sort-of-cookie-like bar. Its consistency is soft and very moist. I ate it nice and slowly so as to savor every bite!
Rising Tide Drape Scarf for Meditation - Listed Value $22
I love the deep jewel tones woven throughout this circle scarf! I couldn't find it on Rising Tide's website, so I linked to a similar one. It drapes nicely both double-looped and worn long. I'm not super into the metallic silver threads throughout, and quite honestly, they'd probably prevent me from wearing this scarf often, if at all. That said, my house is strewn with all sorts of scarves cloaked over lamps and tabletops, so this guy will definitely be making an appearance somewhere in my home!
WalBall Massage Ball - Retail Value $20
If I had received this WalBall a year ago, I might not have been that interested in it. But, since then, I've gotten into long-distance running and even a little mountain biking, and I now totally understand why athletes (even fair weather ones like myself) always keep little tools like this around to help aid in muscle recovery. Though, even folks who are into lower-impact movement (like yoga, of course!) will find this useful. For example, I store stress in my shoulders, and this is perfect for digging into those knots. I was amazed at how easily this rubbery device suctioned to my wall (which is painted and relatively smooth), though it didn't stay up for too long after I walked away. It's a really cool item to have on hand.
The Verdict: I'm really happy with the items I received in my November Yogi Surprise box! I think the theme of "gratitude" can be easily applied to any and every wellness product, so it wasn't hard for me to imagine how I might use these ones with that intention in mind. The treats I'm most excited about are the two oil blends, partially due to their unique scents, and the WalBall. The coconut energy bar was a wonderful surprise, though I can't see myself buying a box of these for myself. The scarf and the card purse aren't really my jam, but the quality is nice enough that I'd feel good about passing them along as gifts or finding an unconventional use for them in my own life. Overall, though, offerings this month!
