Beautiful Madness Book Case jane yall november 2017 booklet

The theme of this month's box is "Jane Y'all." It's all about Jane Austen! This list was included, detailing the contents of this month's package. Also included were these yummy hard candies in coffee, latte, and banana flavors.

The Jane Austen Project by Kathleen Flynn - Retail Value $15.99 (found here for $11.59)

I am about halfway through this book and I am really getting into it! I went through a Jane Austen phase several years ago, so I have lots of fond memories of her work. It's a story about two time travelers who go back to meet Jane Austen, find her unpublished novel and bring it to the future for publication. It's very well-written and carefully crafted with lost of historical detail. It also integrates some of the typical sci-fi elements associated with time travel such as "tampering with the timeline" and having larger effects on history. Plus, it has just the right amount of Austen-esque romantic intrigue. It's really clever!

Socks & Sensibility Knee Socks by Sock It To Me - Retail Value $11.50

LOOK at how cute these socks are! One of my favorite things about winter is that the subscription boxes start sending awesome socks! This is a really sturdy pair of socks with a high cotton content. That makes them a little less stretchy than some, but what they lack in elasticity they make up for in warmth!

Pride & Prejudice Page Flags by Girl of All Work - Retail Value $6.50

This is a really excellent inclusion for a book box that I haven't seen too often before - page flags! What a perfect reading accessory! I finally broke my horrid habit of dog-earing pages, so I'm always reaching for a scrap of paper. These are so much better! They are super cute, and Pride & Prejudice was probably my favorite Austen novel.

Jane Austen Tattoos by Archie McPhee - Retail Value $7

Okay, these are just hilarious. How funny! I can't quite figure out where to sport them to get the most out of them, though. I might have to join a book club.

The Verdict: Beautiful Madness Book Case is one of my favorite subscription boxes! I am a fan of Jane Austen, so I really appreciate everything included. I think it would have been nice (and inexpensive) to actually include something written by Jane Austen, but I am loving the book they sent instead. I do have to wonder, though, how this box would be received by someone who doesn't particularly like Jane Austen. I also notice that they didn't include a handmade/exclusive item this month, but I like the items they sent a lot anyway. I probably would have preferred these considering the theme. The retail value this month comes to about $41, which is similar to the value from last month. Although I am happy with what I received, I feel like the value for a $46.50 box (which includes shipping) should be a lot closer to what I paid. I hope the value improves in the coming months.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the Chapter Twenty/January box.

I read all of Jane Austen’s books when I was a young adult and fondly remember them. I have watched all the PBS specials they have on her books. Some years ago BBC and TNT (I think it was) did a six hour mini-series on Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and it was so so good. I could ramble on all day about Jane Austen’s books. Wish this box was still available.

I wish there were a bibliophile subscription like this but without the books since Im picky. They all seem overpriced as well.
