Bookroo November 2017 Booklet

Bookroo includes an information card in their boxes with a summary of each book.

The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon by A. N. Kang book

The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon by A. N. Kang – Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $10.33)

What can I say other than every book can’t be amazing. This story about an amazingly fluffy kitty fell flat for us. It felt disjointed and while the premise was cute about a kitty so fluffy she floats away, the story just left us all scratching our heads in confusion.

The Spelling Bee before Recess by Deborah Lee Rose book

The Spelling Bee before Recess by Deborah Lee Rose – Retail Value $16.95 (found here for $7.17)

I loved this rhyming book about a boy who makes it to the final round of the school spelling bee, and loses! I love books where the ending surprises you. Not every book has to have a happy ending, and this is a great book to hand your child when they face loss in their own life. The fact that the book also promotes reading is just the icing on the cake for this book-loving librarian.

Verdict: The retail value of Bookroo this month was $33.94 (less with sale prices) which is higher than the $22.99 cost of the box ($17.99 a month + $5 US shipping). We didn’t love Papillon, but we loved the Spelling Bee book and receiving gift-wrapped books in the mail is always a lot of fun for us.
