BoxyCharm is a full-size beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared the cost of the box. (If you are a makeup addict - I HIGHLY recommend this box!)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: BoxyCharm

The Cost: $21 a month

The Products: 5-6 beauty items that will include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized).

Ships to: US and Canada

Check out all of my BoxyCharm reviews and the Beauty Subscription Box Directory!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Now, time for the items!

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara – Value $23

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

My all-time favorite mascara is tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes, so I was excited to try this formula! In general, I'm very impressed. I'd say it's on par with Lights, Camera, Lashes, in terms of length and volume. Personally, I prefer a soft bristle mascara brush over a hard plastic one, so that's the only reason I still prefer the Lights, Camera, Lashes.

Beaute Basics Bronze Essentials - Value $39.95

(This is a variant item. Subscribers may receive a different item instead.)

This bronzer features two matte shades (outer and center) and a super shimmery option as well:

This shimmer shade has some fall out, but in general, these are all well-pigmented. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Real Her Blush Kit – Value $32

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

This blush kit features pink, peach, and bronze shades:

Each color is pretty shimmery, so a little goes a long way with these. They were easy to blend, too. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick in 108 Particularly Sophisticated Value – $24

(All subscribers will receive this liquid lipstick or Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain)

This formula has a metallic glossy finish - it is gorgeous! It's not a long lasting like a matte liquid lipstick, so you'll have to retouch throughout the day, but I think it's worth it!

Here it is swatched beneath the bronzer and the blush palette:

(Bronzer, Blush Kit, Liquid Lip)

Crown WH035 PRO BLUSH BRUSH – Value $12

(This is a variant item. Subscribers may receive a different item instead.)

This is a densely packed brush with not a ton of give, so it's great for precision application.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $131! As always, the value for Boxycharm is amazing! All the items are a win for me this month, too: I can always use more blush and bronzer, I've been wanting to try this new tarte mascara, the metallic liquid lip is new to me and I like, and I makeup brushes are always a good thing!

I think Boxycharm is a perfect subscription for people who love makeup. You're going to get a lot of palettes, highlighters, etc., so it's great if you want to build your collection and try all the things! (If you only need one highlighter/palette in your makeup arsenal, this might not be the best box for you.)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly. Boxycharm is in waitlist mode, so I recommend signing up ASAP. They'll email you when your first box ships, so you'll know which box you'll be getting as your first month.

Coupon – No coupons at this time.

Value Breakdown: At $21 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Mascara: $3.69
  • Bronzer: $6.41
  • Blush Kit: $5.13
  • Liquid Lip: $3.85
  • Brush: $1.92

I finally used the mascara for the first time, and I don’t know if the problem is me and my technique, but I think this mascara is horrible. The barrel is super-thick and difficult to maneuver, and I don’t understand the point, on this log of a barrel, of the short, tiny, barely there bristles. Didn’t do anything for me.

Forgot to add: applying two coats of this without clumping and achieving “spider” lashes turned out to be impossible.

Finally got my box. Got the color corrector so yay! Blush went in the donation box so hopefully it will go to someone that will love it.

I received this box and would love to swap my bronzer for the highlighter. Just in case anyone out there is interested 🙂 I have the bronzer listed on the swap board.

I received my box yesterday and cannot be more thrilled! I got box variation 1 (as pictured above), and I love all the products! The liquid lip is nothing like I have ever had, it looks so cool with the metallic pinkish color. I am very fair skinned, super light blond hair and light blue/grey/green eyes and all the products compliment me great. So so glad I didn’t get that baby poop brown colored lipstick!

I received my box on December 16. I received the box with the color correcting palette. To be honest I have no skin issue’s even though I am 54. I have kept a great skincare regimen most of my life and it has paid off, so I was not overly excited about the palette. The mascara I used it and put the lid of it and the product all overflowed onto the mascara container. I kept having to wipe it off. I was impressed with the product overall though my lashes looked very full. I do not have much in the way of lashes any longer, so this was a win for me. The brush, I have tons I love brushes, can never get enough. The blush Palette I was not impressed at all pigment was not great and the product did not want to cling to my brush.
Now why I think this box is so great is the lippie I just found my number one favorite lippie of all time I got the Pretty Vulgar in willow. It had just the right amount of shine. It is not sticky, and the color is perfect for me. I will purchase this product over and over.
For me this box was a win, anytime I find a favorite product it makes the box a great one!

Anyone just dying to get the color correcting palette and willing to trade? Mine is still unopened and wrapped in the original plastic. Was really disappointed that I got this product.

The lippie shade looks a bit like Secret Sabotage to me! Am I the only one? The Particularly Sophisticated shade looks a lot brighter on the website! Hmmm, it may just be the lighting.

I received this box as well. I am thrilled to have the rosy Pretty Vulgar lippie and the brush. I wanted the corrector palette, and today found someone who is swapping theirs for my bronzer palette. Win!

My poor box has been sitting in the warehouse for 7 days. No movement until today.
I’m pretty sad.

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

Strange my tracking states that my delivery date is today 12/14 but according to USPS they’re still waiting for the package. I hope it didn’t get lost in transit. This is the first time I’ve seen this happen with the tracking. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Reply ButtonReply

julie

Happens to me all the time. Sometimes it sits in the same place for a week like my glossybox that was supposed to be delivered yesterday but probably won’t be here for another week.

Reply ButtonReply

Renee

Do anyone know were this is being shipped from? What state cause it soumds like it may be coming from over seas.

Stephanie Napolitano

That happens with my Lola box…I didn’t get November’s box until the first week of this month…both my Lola and Boxycharm boxes have sat in warehouses for up to ten days before finally being shipped to me. It’s frustrating, especially since I use some of the products as stocking stuffers for family.

Bella01

Me, Here, Me…It’s happening to me for the first time. Somethings going on. Maybe they are sending boxes out in bunches every 7 days because of the cost? I just know I’ve been trying to track it all week and it just sat with no movement and then all of a sudden today they picked it up. Go figure.

Whew, does anyone have a suggestion to tame this wild brown lipstick? I look like I’m strait out of the eighties sporting this metallic color. Is there a trick to make it less 1984 motley crew?

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

Metallics are super in right now.
Anything sparkly that changes color depending on the light – duochrome, prismatic, holographic – haven’t you noticed?

Reply ButtonReply

Shari

Oh, man I love that wild brown color but I am 54 and love still rocking the 80’s 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kelly Williams

Mix it with a nice pink

Reply ButtonReply

Tanya

Yes . I out a little bit I center of lip over last month dark wibe shade. Gorgeous! Plus I am still swooning for losing dark circles with color corrector… now need waterproof concealer

nana

This month was disappointing because both the color corrector and the blush were made in China – and (as I know people are sick of hearing) I don’t let my daughters wear Chinese makeup because of the danger of lead and heavy metals. Not that there isn’t a danger in other products, but it’s a bit less.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

You know that China is pretty strict about that kind of thing, right? COUNTERFEIT items can have some unsavory ingredients in them because they’re cheap on purpose and there’s no quality control. Sure, don’t go letting your daughters buy a knock off $2 palette from ebay. But these aren’t counterfeit and brands often specifically shop for laboratories that are able to produce items with their specific formula and ingredients. It sounds like you’re basing your decisions on outdated rumors and hysteria. Chinese labs from reputable companies (especially SMALLER brands that have a lot more at stake) will be of good quality.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

Why would that increase the likelihood of lead and heavy metals? Wouldn’t they just manufacture according to the brand’s formulation?

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie Napolitano

I hope I get box variant 1!!

Reply ButtonReply

Nene

I just got my box today and I got the color corrector , which I won’t use. I really wanted the Vintage Highlighter. I was hoping for variation 3. My box weight 0.8 lbs.

Julie

I got the color corrector and brown metallic lip. Really wanted pink one. Why do they keep sending me Brown? I have light blonde hair and light skin and it looks awful on me.
Not sure how to use the palette but there was a good unboxing video where she uses it and it looked pretty good.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole

I emailed them about the lip and eye-shadow colors! Too much neutral and brown!!! I’m about ready to cancel my subscription because there is not enough variety in color! I love the products I just wish they would be able to provide other color choice’s.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie Napolitano

Looks like crap on me, too. I have super light blond hair naturally (my eyebrows and lashes are transparent, lol) and gray/light blue/greenish blue eyes. Those brown lippies look stark in my skin tone. I don’t like the monochromatic look at all. I have way too many “nude/brown” lip products, send me some berries/reds/pinks/peachy colors!

Reply ButtonReply

Amber P

Oh that brown lip color – I can’t even. I can’t imagine that looking good on anyone of any skin tone. I’m so disappointed I got it.

My color correcting palette had a huge fingerprint in the green which beyond skeeved me out. I already have a color correcting palette from Smashbox that I use once in a while so I was already planning on passing that along to someone else, or the trash., if I had gotten it.

The blushes are SO chalky and powdery not to mention filled with glitter. Coming from someone who loves blush I was really disappointed with that product.

The brush and mascara are worth $21 but overall this box fell really flat for me. I was pretty disappointed with it.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Forgive me if you’re a visual person like me, I think the brown shade makes my lips look like a butt because of the color.
I got the Pretty Vulgar lippie and the color corrector palette.

LoriW.

I got the same box. I was really hoping for the lip color in the review, I really hate brown/nude. I’m pretty happy otherwise with the price of just the mascara covering the cost of the box

Julie

I received my box today and I got the bronze essentials. If anyone that got the color correcting concealer and would like to swap, that would be great:)

Reply ButtonReply

nana

Where is the bronze essentials made? The color corrector is made in China 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

Julie, I would love to swap with you!!

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

I listed it on the swap site. I checked this morning and I am the only Julie with it listed if you would like to send a request 🙂

Emily

Has ANYONE gotten the Makeup Geek variation? That’s the one I want but every single picture I see on Instagram is one of the other two! Hoping they maybe send them out in batches and I got the last batch (wishful thinking!).

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica Jennings

I’m so disappointed. I just got my box in the mail and I opened it up to discover Beauté Basics Bronzer crushed up and a powdered mess all over everything. 😔

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

Received my box today total mess everything has bronzer everywhere including the outside all my mail in my box had stuff all over it everything I have sent a message along with several pictures and haven’t received a reply to this issue or any of the other messages this month. Any suggestions??

Reply ButtonReply

Tanya

Oh no!

Reply ButtonReply

LoriD

@jessica, take a picture with your phone of the label on your box with the bronzer next to the box showing the damage & email them thru the website right away. They will make it right & send out a new bronzer for you. Unfortunately you’ll have to clean up the mess though & I’m sorry sweetie, but do it right away so they can get the new one out to you asap.

Clarissa

Hey everyone hurry the limited edition just restocked I didn’t know how else to get it out but it’s on there now I just checked. I’m not ordering it I don’t think I’d like what’s in so good luck to those who missed out and did.

Reply ButtonReply

Nichole

How/Where do you find the limited addition box to buy it?

Reply ButtonReply

Chrissy

I got this exact box

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara Deneweth

I hope I get this variation too. I don’t use colorectors. But the bronzer is so pretty! I’m pretty much out of the Pur bronzer I got in a previous Boxycharm box…

Reply ButtonReply

Candace

I usually have my box by now but I have yet to get it and still no tracking info. Last month I got my tracking info the day after I got my box. I have this feeling Im going to have to deal with their terrible customer service team….

Reply ButtonReply

LoriD

@Candace, if you haven’t already done it, sign up for a free account on FedEx and then you can see when they print the label and the shipping progress. I almost never get a tracking email from boxy but I keep track of my FedEx account so I know when to expect it. Hope this helps you!

Reply ButtonReply

Candace

LoriD, Thank you! I never thought of that. I’m gonna do that now!

Dawn L

My box weighs .8 I hope it doesn’t have the Highlighter in it. I already have 2 Vintage Highlighters from previous boxes that I don’t use. This box is a total failure for me anyway so giving me a repeat product wouldn’t surprise me. After the LE Box failure and the quality of the December box I’m done I cancelled. I hope someone on the waiting list gets my spot and enjoys the products.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

I love the vintage duo highlighter we got. I’m actually down to the pan!!! Let me know if you’re interested in swapping or selling. Thanks

Reply ButtonReply

MB

If yours weighs .8 you have the highlighter. Though I’ve heard that if you already had one from Boxy and email them they’ll send you a bonus item in your January box. Not sure how true it is, but worth a try.

gayle

Anyone who has received their box know the weight of their box? My tracking shows mine weighs 0.8

Reply ButtonReply

June

I was worried because my tracking said my box only weighed 0.4. However, I got all my products and everything was perfect. (Mascara, blush palette, brush, pretty vulgar and bronzer palette.)

Reply ButtonReply

Noori Paro

Mine was .7 and I got the same box as Liz, except in a nude metallic lipstick shade
