Doodle Crate Chalkboard Ornaments Holiday Box Review
As a bonus, this box included this cool little mini-zine from Family Fun! It has some ideas for even more DIY holiday ornaments.
This project is making chalkboard ornaments! The skill focus is chalk art. This is the booklet that came in our box.
Here's a peek inside the booklet at the instructions. They were clear and well illustrated, so they were easy for my son to follow. The booklet also always contains good tips and suggestions for practicing.
Somehow I failed to get a picture of the supplies, but they can all be seen in the picture above the subscription info. I guess we were too excited to get started! Everything we needed was included.
The first step for my son was to paint the ornaments with the chalkboard paint on both sides and let it dry.
After the chalkboard paint was dry, he had to prime the ornaments. He did this by rubbing each side completely with the broad side of the white chalk and then rubbing it off with a dry paper towel.
He then decorated the ornaments with the chalk markers. They are so stinkin' cute! I can't stand how adorable they are!
Next, he had to assemble the tree by sliding the two pieces together.
These are his completed ornaments! I absolutely love them! He decided to make them standing ornaments instead of the kind you hang from the tree. Doodle Crate provided little foam inserts for the animals' feet to allow the pieces to stand, so we now have this adorable holiday woodland scene! As a side note, they are chalkboards, so my son can redecorate them every year, or as often as he likes!
The Verdict: Doodle Crate is SO awesome, and we love their holiday crates! This project was our favorite so far this year! They were easy and super fun to make, and the end product is just darling! We love it! I still can't believe what Doodle Crate can provide for $20. When you consider the materials, the curation, the project selection, and instructions, that's really a bargain! Most importantly, it always sets the stage for some fun times crafting with my son. Happy Holidays!
