Go Native! Hawaiian Beauty Box December 2017 Review
This month, Go Native! is featuring items that apply to the theme, "faith, hope, and love"—but especially love.
They're also highlighting native Hawaiian farmers Jesse Fujimoto and Laura Rieber, whose hand-pollinated, wild-grown, and hand-crafted organic vanilla extract is one of the ingredients in the included perfume roller.
You'll find details on each item and who made them on the reverse side.
Momi Ahu Fabric Pouch
I'm of the mindset that you can't ever have too many pouches. Maybe that's because I love to travel, and depending on where I'm going, and what I'll be doing when I get there, I might need a pouch of a different size or durability to go along with it. For example, I have a sturdy woven pouch that I load up with some lucky jewelry for camping trips, but something like this beautiful handmade pouch with satiny lining is probably better suited to holding my jewelry for a beach trip or cruise. For those who believe there is such thing as too many pouches, this Go Native! exclusive, handmade design would make a great gift!
Mamalani + No Spray Hawaii Kolukahi Perfume, 10ml
Inside the pouch, I found a few goodies! One is this Go Native!-exclusive roll-on perfume. Like I mentioned above, one of the ingredients is vanilla, which was mindfully grown and harvested. It's paired with cinnamon and vetiver root, and its scent is rich, moody, and musky. I reckon this would make a good unisex scent!
Puulaau Remedies AO Shimmer Cream, 0.15 oz. — Retail Value $13.50
The other item found inside my pouch was this small cardboard container of shimmer cream. Puulaau Remedies' website shows various shades of this shimmer cream looking so deep and noticeable on an arm. The bronze color that I received is beautiful, but I can't get it to show up that visibly on my own skin! Maybe I need to spend more time with it and warm it in my hands for longer. It does have a nice, perfume-y scent to it, too. I love that this product is vegan and organic.
Indigenous Soap + Misprint Laau Lapaau Greeting Cards, Set of 3
Two makers, Misprint and Indigenous Soap, teamed up to design this set of three greeting cards. They showcase three healing Hawaiian medicinal plants, Ohia ai, Kookoolau, and Olena. The prints on these cards are so insanely vibrant—the photos truly don't do them justice! On the back of each is a little blurb about the plant it features, which is such a wonderful way to spread the word about these amazing plants. Sending these cards to some of my far-off friends will be a brilliant way to liven up winter while sending a smile!
Manuhealii Compostable Wrapping Paper + Gift Tags — Retail Value $15.00
As Christmas approaches each year, and I start to package up presents for my loved ones, I can't help but think how wasteful the whole holiday really is with wrapping paper that often gets torn and thrown away. This compostable wrapping paper from clothing designer Manuhealii is the answer to that! Here, you're provided 5 folded sheets of reversible wrapping paper, which for some folks might be enough to cover their whole array of gifts to give! This paper is much like newsprint, but a bit thicker, and comes with 6 gift tags and gold-touched string with which to attach them. While the patterns and colors admittedly don't speak to me, I absolutely love this idea and will save these sheets for one-off birthday presents down the line.
The Verdict: This is my first time reviewing the Go Native! subscription, and I was really fascinated by all the thoughtful, handmade items in my box. I like that this December box gives subtle nods to the holidays and gift-giving without being too overtly Christmas-themed.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $38.00, and the info card says the items inside have a retail value of $73.00. The two items that I could find an exact price for are worth $28.50, meaning the other three items have an average cost of about $3.17 each.
