Gwynnie Bee December 2017 Review

This review is of the 3 items at a time subscription from 11/21 through 12/20:

JUNAROSE - Chala Blouse modeled

JUNAROSE - Chala Blouse

What a pretty cotton blouse! And such a great color for the season! I also just love all the stylish details. I wish I had thought about it when I closeted this piece, but Junarose can sometimes run a bit small, and I think I would have been happier in the next size up. I wore it anyway, though!

LUCKY BRAND - Colorblock Cardigan

LUCKY BRAND - Colorblock Cardigan

Hooray for Lucky Brand! I really liked this cotton-blend cardigan, even though colorblock is not usually my thing. I wish the colors in this were more vibrant, but I guess the neutral slant makes it a little more versatile. This was nice and cozy to wear.

LUCKY BRAND - Diamond Pattern Cardigan

LUCKY BRAND - Diamond Pattern Cardigan

If you read my reviews at all, you know I'm a huge fan of Lucky Brand, and this cardigan is no exception! I love the length, the print, the sleeve length, the cotton blend texture, and the warmth! I loved it so much, in fact, I bought it during the Black Friday sale on "At-Home" items! I will be getting a ton of use out of this piece!

JOAN VASS NEW YORK - Sleeveless Open Front Eyelash Vest In Black

JOAN VASS NEW YORK - Sleeveless Open Front Eyelash Vest In Black

This vest was another win for me! I love faux fur, but sometimes faux fur can be stiff due to the lining, and it's usually really bulky. This polyester vest, however, is described as "eyelash" style, so it was unlined and kind of slinky. It was not bulky at all. This was really fun to wear!

AMANDA UPRICHARD - Staci Top In Multi Poppy Print

AMANDA UPRICHARD - Staci Top In Multi Poppy Print

For a chiffon blouse, this top was actually really comfortable. It's pretty and has an easy cut. I liked it!

LIZ CLAIBORNE - Velvet Sweatshirt In Black Floral modeled

Liz Claiborne has been around since I was a kid, and I admire the brand for being a pioneer in plus sizing. I often think of their style as kind of frumpy, but I didn't feel that way at all in this velour sweatshirt! I liked the small flower print, too. It was really comfortable and stylish for loungewear!

LOVE & LEGEND BY ADDITION ELLE - Tartan Cold Shoulder Sweater modeled

LOVE & LEGEND BY ADDITION ELLE - Tartan Cold Shoulder Sweater

I really wanted to like this cotton-blend sweater, but the shoulder cut-outs were just not flattering. I felt like they were saying, "Hey, guess what's under here? Enormous arms." Haha! I actually think the sweater would have been pretty without the cold shoulder. The placement of the holes is super important!

GILLI - Velvet Shift Dress With Tie Sleeves In Navy Floral Print modeled

Look how gorgeous this velvet dress is! I loved wearing this to church on Christmas Eve! I felt super stylish, and it's pretty flattering, too! The print is just beautiful!

The Verdict: I love Gwynnie Bee! This month was fantastic! I had a good turnover of pieces (for me), and I loved almost all of them! I especially loved the cardigan I bought and the dress! I like trying new things all the time, and Gwynnie Bee gives me loads of new options! It's so fun!

I love that dress. I would try it, but it’s just too short for me. It looks absolutely fabulous on you!!

I just don’t get the point of clothing rental, unless it’s special occasion or something. I mean, I save $100 for when FullBeauty has a significant sale and most of the time that $100 will buy me at least 6 pieces, brand new and in the color/style I choose. I just don’t see why on earth anyone would spend the equivalent amount for used clothing you can’t keep, especially when turnaround time is a factor in exactly what you get and how often you can wear it.

I understand, but it works for me. I used to look like I was in mourning with my black/brown/blue wardrobe. 🙂 I still have my basic clothes, but Gwynnie Bee helps me expand it without all the hassle. I have the 2 items at a time, and I took advantage of good deals when I first joined to get two 6 month add-ons. So, I currently have 4 items out at a time. That means I usually wear about 12 items a month (once 15 when everything aligned perfectly). Most of them I wear at least once, and I’ve purchased a few. And that is 12-14 less days of items to wash in my month, too. As a mom with littles, 12-14 less work clothes to wash per month might be worth the price alone.

I hate going shopping, so I usually shop online. I’ve used fullbeauty sites (woman within, etc) too, but I end up paying to return most of the items (for a variety of reasons), and several things I purchased recently shrank terribly. It’s all such a hassle.

That said, will I keep it forever? Probably not, but it has helped me find different cuts, colors, and styles that work for my body shape, so I should do a little better when shopping online later. So, I think it’s a lot of fun, personally. It might not be for you, but I love it!

I’m a teacher who is at work till 7 pm post nights because I work with students outside the school day as well as teach, am required to wear business clothing, and have rheumatoid arthritis and live in a city without a car.

My GwynnieBee subscription means I can wear really cool, cute, and interesting work appropriate clothing which I don’t have to wash or dry clean myself, and don’t have to take the time to shop for. Even if it wasn’t a labor saving and energy saving choice for me, the clothes are nicer, prettier, fit better, and make me happier than anything I’ve ever seen on full beauty, and I do check there with some regularity since my mom has their credit card and is awesome at working their sales.

I also spend less on GwynnieBee plus the few things I buy on deep clearance from Eloquii and maybe Lane Bryant, than I was buying work clothes my first couple years teaching. I also generally wear things once or maybe twice, and send them back so I rarely wear clothes I own at work. It helps keep my closet size manageable, my laundry load doable, and my students obsessed with my wardrobe which is always fun.

I just finished my free month with Gwynnie Bee and then canceled. I had high hopes at first, but overall the value to price just doesn’t come through:

– 4 garments had quality issues from minor to major.
– The price at which you could buy something kept wildly fluctuating, and for the most part was too high for used clothing. With my extra 20% it was around 50% off, which is less of a sale than I usually get something for new. A couple of garments I would have bought if they were $5 to $10 cheaper.
– Returning an item to receiving the next one could take a week. Shipping time varied – sometimes it was fast, sometimes it was slow. However, this means if you return anything you spend part of the month not having any rental clothes on hand at all.
– Beyond prioritizing something and hoping you get that one, there wasn’t really any way to rank or control what you get.
– If you cancel, you pretty much can’t do anything afterwards even if there is time left on your account. You can’t shop at the outlet, can’t buy an item, can’t receive new items even if you mail yours back, etc.

I did love the Outlet though, and bought several sale items from there. I had far better luck with the Outlet items than the clothing I was sent.

Can I gush over how gorgeous you looked in so many of the items? My fave was the dress and the velour sweatshirt with those tiny flowers. Your arm comment had me laughing hard. 🙂
