Laserbrain Patch Co December 2017 Review
Of course, the coloring page this month includes Poe and a Porg! Since I haven't seen the newest film yet, I'm not totally sure what these little creatures are, but I've seen all the toys featuring them. My husband tells me they are "space puffins." (Yes, he saw the movie without me...)
With the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi this month, this is a great theme for Laserbrain to take on! In the intro card they note that they decided to focus on some newer themes for this box.
I haven't had a chance to see The Last Jedi yet myself, so there are no spoilers that I'm aware of in this review. There are a couple minor tidbits in that info card and of course some illustrations relating to the film, so you may want to stop now if you're trying to avoid any information about the film at all. 🙂
The Last Jedi Print - Listed Value $5
This 5x7 print features a movie poster-like illustration of Kylo Ren and Rey, by artist Michael Gorilla Pasquale.
This is a glossy paper with rounded edges, and it's got a nice high-resolution print quality...to me, though, it seems more like a promotional item than an art print, so it's not something I'd typically assign a value to. I almost wish it were a postcard instead.
On the back are some tattoo designs! Laserbrain is run by some tattoo artists, and they even invite you to use these designs to get a tattoo elsewhere if you're so inclined– but one of these designs is available as a patch too if you're into something less permanent.
I vaguely feel like I've seen similar BB8 designs before, but I kinda love this Death Star globe referencing Rogue One and totally wish I could buy that one as a patch too!
General Leia Embroidered Patch – Listed Value $8
This patch features a quote spoken by Leia to Han Solo in "The Force Awakens", against an Alliance logo background. The card notes how Leia was chosen for the patch this month because she is such a strong and interesting character, and I totally agree!
I'm still mourning the loss of Carrie Fisher, too– how sad were those photos of her dog Gary watching the premiere?
This box's patches are always crazy detailed, too. I have a couple of other patches from Laserbrain and they do iron-on well, but I've found that it's always best to add some stitches to really secure them permanently.
Star Wars Slider Pin – Listed Value $13
Woah. This pin is so cool! I have a handful of enamel pins but none with interactive elements like this.
Always impressed with the amount of detail artists can get into these pins! This is 1.5" tall and just over 1" wide, with a sliding "ski speeder" on the salt planet of Crait. The background features the Rebel Alliance and First Order symbols and even has a tiny TIE Fighter.
Millenium Falcon Soap – Listed Value $6
I cannot wait to sit this out in our half bath for guests to use this holiday! This is the first time we've received an item in this box that isn't wearable, I think, but it was a fun treat!
This item isn't featured on the Lenore Batherie website, so I couldn't get specific details on it. It smells lovely, a bit woody and musky in a way that seems very appropriate for Han Solo.
Their soaps are also all vegan, sulfate-free, and palm oil free.
It did get just a tiny bit dinged up during shipping, but the Falcon was never really a pristine flying machine in the first place. 😜
Now, who can I get to babysit so I can finally go see The Last Jedi? 🙂
Verdict: Laserbrain Patch Co is one of my favorite subscriptions for fun art objects, and I think they did a good job overall with the Star Wars theme this month. I frequently buy enamel pins for $10 plus shipping, so the pin and patch are worth more than the $16 cost of the box to me and I'm totally excited to put this cool, detailed slider on my tote bag! The fun soap and art print are just nice extras.
