LitJoy Crate Kid's December 2017 Review
An info card highlighting the month's theme of 'Dragons' was included to help you and your little reader navigate everything inside the box. I always find this to be super helpful! As an added bonus this month, LitJoy Crate sent along a coupon card for Foodstirs trail mix cookies. Plus, there is a card highlighting a LitJoy Shop, coming in January!
First things first, my favorite part, a letter to your little reader. This month's card is from the author and illustrator. I love this personalized touch that is always so exciting to read with my son. This card is so cute with the extra drawings.
Dough Knights and Dragons By Dee Leone - Retail Value $16.95 (found here for $13.66)
I can't say how much I loved this book! We start with a knight and a dragon meeting only to discover that they both love to...bake! The only problem is that the knight and dragon aren't supposed to be friends and soon will have to battle, their kingdom makes it so. After building their friendship, they decide that they couldn't possible slay a dragon or eat a knight. Late into the night, they discover a way around it. This funny tale highlights true friendship and how you can bring many different kinds of people together. This is an extremely important message that I am constantly trying to teach to my son, we are all one. This absolutely hilarious book with its beautiful illustrations really helps to show your little one that anyone, no matter the difference, can be best of friends!
Knight Cookie Cutter - Estimated Value $5.99 (Value estimate based on similar product)
This cookie cutter is so cute! At first, I thought it was a unicorn, but it made much more sense being a knight. I love a good theme and this product really matched to this months. With it being the holiday season, we have been baking lots of cookies in my house, and I plan on using this little cookie cutter for our next batch. My son is going to love it!
There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight By Penny Parker Klostermann - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $11.89)
This is a book of rhymes about an old dragon that basically swallows an entire kingdom. He doesn't enjoy it like he thought he would! Follow this story to discover everything this dragon eats and why. The funniest part though is how he gets everything out of his stomach. My son really loved the rhymes in this book, it read sort of like a song that he loved repeating as he started to remember the order. This was a super fun and interactive book that I loved reading to my little guy!
Dragon Cookie Cutter – Retail Value $5.41
Another cookie cutter that we can use! A lot of our cookie cutters have a more holiday theme so I was excited to receive two shapes that we can use all year round. I might even use this one to cut a fun dragon shape in a sandwich to make my son's lunch a bit more exciting.
Three Piece Baking Tools - Retail Value $9.99
This baking set is the perfect size for your little one. They can use it to help you bake in the kitchen if they wanted! For right now, my son is using this adorable set in his play kitchen. He has been enjoying cooking me food with his brand new and super bright kitchen tools! If these weren't smaller tools, I would honestly think they were for me to use, the quality is that good.
Dragon Themed Activity Pages - Estimated Value $2.00
The activity pages featured each month are always so much fun. This month's pages are all dragon themed to match the books. I have found that having these pages around for a rainy day or even to take with me to a restaurant are a great distraction for my son. They are super fun and literally save the day when in need of something quick for him to use his imagination with.
Verdict: This was one of my favorite LitJoy Crate boxes to date, and that is saying something since I usually love all of them! At first, my son thought the stories would be scary since they had dragons on them, but inside each story was a thoughtful and silly tale. The stories are so unique and so funny. My son kept asking me to read both books, "Again, again!" I think I read each book three or four times the first day we got the box! The illustrations in both books are beautiful as well which I love because I can see the joy in my son's eyes as he discovers each page. LitJoy Crate for the win again!
The monthly cost of this box is $38.98 ($29.99 a month + $8.99 US shipping fee) and I received a total of six items with an estimated total value of $57.33. The overall value is a bit better than last month, and I still think the monthly cost is worth all of the products you receive. Normally I don't find all of the toys to be high quality, but this month's toys are all incredible and will really last in my house.
