Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly "Star Wars" Review
I have love, love, loved Star Wars since I was eleven when I saw the original film trilogy for the first time. I probably shouldn’t admit this in a public forum, but I was so obsessed, I spent hours in junior high reading the expanded universe novels; I just couldn’t get enough of the characters and worlds! When I found out I was going to be reviewing this box, I was actually so excited I couldn’t stop thinking about it until it arrived. Let’s dive into a galaxy far, far away!
Princess Leia Magnet - Estimated Value $4.00 (Based on similar product)
The first thing I found in the box was the Princess Leia magnet, and it gave me a lot of feelings. Carrie Fisher is a major hero of mine, and her passing in 2016 broke my heart, so this made me happy and sad at the same time. Princess Leia is always a welcome sight in my household, and I love the black-and-white motif on this magnet.
Rey Slouchy Hat - Estimated Value $24.99 (based on similar product)
This hat is so soft! I love the silhouette of Rey and BB-8 from “The Force Awakens,” and the fabric is nice and light while still keeping my head warm. I think the grey and black color scheme is so smart because it’ll go with absolutely any coat or sweater. This hat was designed by Kal-Elle in collaboration with Shopapplejax.
Millennium Falcon Earrings - Estimated Value $12.95 (based on similar product)
I feel like Kal-Elle looked into my nerdy soul for these earrings - I may never take them off! The details are so nice and I like that they aren’t at all heavy on my ears when I wear them. The silver keeps them neutral enough that I can wear them with almost any outfit, and if someone notices that I’m wearing the ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs, we can totally bond.
Star Wars Calendar - Estimated Value $12.00 (based on similar product)
I’m kind of obsessed with the art style for this calendar. It reminds me of those watercolor tattoos I see all over Instagram. I love the different illustrations and that characters across all of the movies - old and new - are represented. I also think the small size is adorable; it’s perfect for at your desk when you need to see the month at a glance. This piece was also designed by Kal-Elle.
Empire Insignia Ring - Estimated Value $16.00 (based on similar product)
Yay! More jewelry! This ring isn’t adjustable, but it fits my middle finger, so I would put the size around a 7.5. If I can be totally honest, I was surprised at how much I liked it! I feel like when dealing with novelty jewelry, rings, in particular, are likely to be on the cheap side, quality-wise, but I didn’t find this to be the case at all here. It’s solidly constructed and feels expensive. I also really liked that this piece represents the Empire instead of the Rebel Alliance. We usually root for the good guys most days, but sometimes it’s just a little bit fun to be bad. This was the third and final piece designed by Kal-Elle for this box.
Star Wars Art Print - Estimated Value $7.00 (based on similar product)
We all know my feelings for Star Wars by this point, and this 4x6 art print has turned that sentiment into a great visual statement. I can’t wait to find a tiny little frame for this and put it up on my wall.
R2D2 Necklace - Estimated Value $19.99 (based on similar product)
The last product I uncovered from the Kal-Elle box was this R2D2 necklace, and it is a BIG statement. It’s not as heavy as it looks, but it definitely has some weight to it. I’m a little on the fence with this one, but I do like that the chain isn’t ridiculously long despite the large pendant. You can see in the first photo that it actually hangs at a nice length on me (and yes, I’m wearing a Darth Vader kitty shirt...I swear it was a coincidence!).
Verdict: This was my first Kal-Elle box experience, and it made my heart sing with geeky joy. I loved the jewelry in this box, the hat was a great accessory, and I really love the art style of the calendar and the mini-poster. This box was $22.75 with shipping, and contained 7 items, so the cost breaks down to $3.25 per item. I wasn’t able to find an exact price match for many of these items, but the comparable items were worth WAY more than $3.25, plus the exclusivity of the calendar and the hat designs add a lot of value. I loved this box so much, and I can’t wait to see what else future boxes have in store.
