Kira Kira Crate January 2018 Review
Kira Kira Crate always comes with a booklet that describes all the items and how to use them, which is great because the majority of the packaging is written in Japanese! There’s also always a short makeup tutorial, and they feature customer photos that use the hashtag #kirakiracrate to share on social media. The theme for this box is Year of the Dog, which is so exciting to me because I absolutely love dogs and am hoping to add one to my family this year. So, if your New Years’ goals include “pet all the dogs,” as mine do, please read on and enjoy the contents of this box!
Malibu Beauty Eye Color Palette 04
Since this box was mostly full of pampering items, I was glad only single makeup item was this eight-color palette. I love the colors, and the formula is really smooth. I don’t usually wear darker colors, but I like the two darkest shades in this one and will use a brush to apply them to the crease of my eye for sort of a laid-back, slightly smoky look. This brand is new to me, and this was a great introduction.
FukuFuku Yu Dog Bath Salt
How cute are these bath salts? The pamphlet says that this package - decorated with a shiba inu - also serves as a good luck charm. These are really interesting because I expected them to be crystals, more like Epsom salts, but they’re a finely ground, brightly-colored powder. They smell really sweet and fruity - they’re supposed to be apricot-scented, and I definitely sense apricot, but with a pleasing, almost-tropical edge.
New Year’s Dog Decoration Soap
These products keep getting cuter and cuter! This li’l guy would be the sweetest addition to a guest bath for all your friends to “Ooh and aah” over. I had wayyyy too much fun decorating this with the little stickers, and it smells so good! It’s not quite floral, not quite clean - just a pleasing, cotton-y, soap-y scent.
Dog Face Mask
I love animal sheet masks like this one. They’re usually equal parts luxurious and horrifying to look at, and seeing myself in them always cracks me up. This sheet mask has collagen and Vitamin E to really nourish my skin, and I’ll take all the vitamins I can get as I try to survive a particularly freezing, dry winter in Pennsylvania.
Bath Salt & Sponge Set
I loved that there were so many bath salts in this box. I’m more of a bath bomb kind of person (seriously, the addiction is real), but I was really excited to have the chance to branch out a bit more and try this set. The little sponge is SO adorable - it’s shaped almost like a gummy bear. These salts are grape-scented, which sounds weird but totally works.
Steam Face Mask Towel
A face mask you can put in the microwave? Yes, please! (Full disclosure: I meticulously cleaned my microwave before using this, just to make sure I wasn’t accidentally giving myself a “reheated-leftovers” facial.) This mask is nice and versatile because after it’s been dampened, it can either be microwaved or put in the fridge or freezer. It didn’t have much of a smell, but it felt so good on my face after I heated it up.
Verdict: This was a little goodie box of spa-like pampering for me! I loved trying out bath salts for the first time in a long time, and everything was really cute without being too precious. All the items were really useful, and the makeup item, the Malibu palette, really seemed like an extra value because it has eight colors for me to play with. I really enjoyed these items and their presence reminded me that especially in winter, self-care is absolutely everything.
