Papergang is a monthly stationery subscription box from quirky UK design team, Ohh Deer. Each month they partner with a different artist and have a theme to bring you paper goods and desk accessories.
They always feature really eye-catching packaging designed specially each month by the featured artist. On the back is a paper cut out craft—this time around, it's Happy New Year garland designed by Jade Walsh.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Papergang December 2017 Review
Hi, guys! I'm Christen, and I'm taking over for Marne this month. This is my first Papergang box, and I couldn't be more excited to dig in!
Papergang includes a fun little info booklet each month that matches the box and theme of the contents! This month's vibrant, leafy collection of stationery was designed by Jade Walsh.
Open the booklet and you'll find the contents of this box (Box #22), as well as a little context around the featured artist. Turns out Jade Walsh is the lead designer at Ohh Deer!
On the next two pages, they explain a little about Walsh's use of tropical motifs, and how it ties into current design trends. They also give a little 411 on the primary colors chosen, and some themes to look out for in contemporary designs. As someone who always notices and appreciates great design, but doesn't know much about the process, I absolutely love the mini master class!
Finally, a head's up about the Papergang blog and a note about the January sale.
And, on the back cover, a little Happy New Year wish with a place to jot down your new year's resolution. Cute!
Bright and Leafy A5 Notebooks - Listed Value $8.05 USD (£5.95)
Raise your hand if you love a fresh, crisp notebook. *Raises hand.* I used to collect notebooks with intentions of journaling in them, and then leave them untouched on my bookshelf. Recently, I started a weekly poetry writing group with two friends and now, suddenly, all my notebooks are gloriously filling up! These two paperbacks are next in line. Both feature a glossy-matte combo on their covers and such vibrant colors. The leafy one is gridded, while the colorblock version is filled with blank pages. I swear inspiration can come from anywhere—including switching up the lines in your notebooks—so I'm really excited to see what comes out of this set. I'm also happy that they're relatively thin (24 pages if I counted correctly) and light, so I can toss one in my bag and bring it with me everywhere.
Colorblock Phrase Pens, Set of 3 - Listed Value $10.75 USD (£7.95)
Since I'm a notebook collector, it probably won't surprise you to learn that I'm also a pen fanatic. I don't have a favorite type of tip or ink; I want 'em all! All my coworkers know that if they borrow a writing utensil from me and accidentally end up stealing it, it'll definitely get stolen back, haha. Each pen in this set of three has a sharp, fine tip, a smooth roll, and black ink. They're lightweight, adorably designed, and all feature a fun little writing-themed phrase. I'm going to toss all three in my purse right now!
Peachy A6 Notepad - Listed Value $5.34 USD (£3.95)
I have a small block of blank paper on my kitchen counter that my husband and I use to write each other little notes or reminders throughout the week. But, we also use a sheet to collect grocery needs as we run out of our usual stuff. Half the time I find myself rewriting my list so that the produce, refrigerated items, canned goods, et cetera, are grouped together on the list. It helps me from running around the grocery store like a madwoman! Can you see where I'm going with this? This peachy notepad is filled with ideal grocery lists! The column for checking off your tasks as you complete them is everything.
Tropical Birthday Card - Listed Value About $3.38 USD (£2.50)
I think it's such a good idea to have a few (or several dozen, whatever floats your boat) spare cards lying around for a variety of occasions. To me, it's so important to send thoughtful notes in the mail, especially to friends who live far away and having a stockpile to pull from makes me more likely to do it. Seriously, who doesn't love receiving mail? Sometimes, certain pals or celebrations deserve a handmade or specially-selected card, but for the most part, choosing from my supply does the trick. Anyway, this unisex birthday card didn't even have the chance to make it to my greeting card drawer! I used it right away for a friend who turned 30. I'm all about making good use of the white space inside cards and filling them with positive messages and praise for my peeps, so I like that this one was blank inside.
Bonus: February Calendar Card - Estimated Value $1.35? (£1?)
What a pleasant surprise! This February calendar features the same tropical motifs that Walsh used for the rest of this month's box contents but in a bright pink and coral color scheme. It's always good to plan ahead, and this February calendar allows you to do just that. Love it!
Verdict: My first Papergang experience was amazing! It was so much fun being showered in brilliant artworks by one of Ohh Deer's very own designers! Plus, all the included varieties of stationery are of wonderful quality and will be very useful for me in my day-to-day. Can't beat that. I received 2 notebooks, 3 pens, a notepad, a greeting card, and a bonus calendar card, all with exclusive designs, which added up to about $25 USD. That's a good value, considering the box itself is $18.80 USD, including shipping costs!
