Peaches and Petals "Let's Get Cozy" December 2017 Box Review

let's get cozy december peaches and petals theme info card for peaches and petals december

This month's cozy items are geared towards warming me up during the winter months.

copper mug and box copper mug and back side of box inside of copper mug hammered copper mug

ODI Antique Copper Moscow Mule Mug, 16 oz. - Retail Value $11.99

I love me a Moscow Mule, but I don't own any copper mugs to enjoy them in. That is, I didn't... until now! This mug has a nice antique-inspired finish—aesthetically, I tend to prefer smooth copper mugs, but functionally, this will be just fine. I wish it came in a set since I usually like to enjoy cocktails with at least one or more people. I did think it was interesting that the info card suggested enjoying a hot cocoa in this mug—I'd be nervous that it'd get super hot and scorch my hands!

cheesecake quirky wood block painted wood decor back side of wood decor

Wooden Sign - Estimated Value $5.00

I'm totally guessing at the value of this sign since it's proving very tricky to find online. The sign is 5" x 7" with a depth of about 1.25". There's a hole in the back, in case you'd like to hang it, but it also stands up just fine on its own—it'd look nice perched on a shelf or a mantle. I like the sassy sentiment! Plus the mention of cheesecake reminds me of The Golden Girls, which is just the best thing to have pop into my mind.

closed journal notebook open journal with red ribbon bookmark back label of journal

Paper Blanks Old Leather Journal - Retail Value $19.20 USD

I love journals and notebooks that can fit in my bag—I know I can take notes in my phone nowadays, but I tend to remember things better if I scratch 'em down in a notebook. This notebook is about 5.5" x 4" big and has a handy magnetic flap that keeps it shut and secure. The design is a little rustic and traditional for my taste, but I'm sure I'll put it to use nonetheless. And if I don't, it's nice enough that it'd make a good small gift for a writer friend.

dark brown beanie knit beanie

Knit Beanie - Estimated Value $5.00

I'm just guessing at the price of this hat since there's no tag to reference on this eggplant-colored hat. The yarn is super soft and comfy, though the opening of the hat is a little tight. (Laid flat, it's about 8" wide and stretches to about 10"—double that, and you've got a good estimation of whether it'll fit on your head.) Because the knit is bigger, some gaps do appear when the hat is stretched out, but not so much that it effects how warm it is.

The Verdict: I liked the cozy vibe of this Peaches and Petals box! I think it was a stretch to suggest using the mug for cocoa, but otherwise, everything had a lighthearted, comfy vibe. I also think this box was a nice curation for December—if I didn't keep the items I got, everything would make a fun stocking stuffer for someone!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $19.99 with free shipping. There were a few items inside that I couldn't find online, but the items I could find had a value of $31.19. So you're definitely getting back the value you paid for the box... so long as the items are things you like!

Just so you all know, these copper mugs retail for about a dollar in stores in India

How is this sub still even around??? Who is buying this overpriced crap?

The theme was “let’s get cozy” so what’s cozy about the items except maybe the cheap hat. The only original thing in this box is the sign and you can find them at Zulilly or Etsy and a million other places. Nothing is COZY about this box. Just saying….

I want that sign. The is the first time I have heard of this subscription. I am going to have to keep an eye on it.

PEACHWATCH is not a valid code I tried it spelled separately as well

Bummed to have missed this box, will be looking for the items in swap! It says $11.95 in the U.S. on the notebook though, not $19.20.

Copper mugs are only safe to drink from if the inside is lined with stainless steel. This one does not appear to be. I would suggest getting rid of it. Copper is one helluva toxicant.

Ragan

You can drink cold things from unlined copper mugs, leaching won’t be significant. But not hot things (and not acidic things). So the hot cocoa suggestion was not a good one.

If the mug is lined with tin or stainless steel, it can be used for hot beverages. I’ve never heard of lining mugs with nickel and don’t think it is typically used for food/beverage purposes.

Thanks so much for this info, Ragan! I’m not familiar enough with copper cups to have known. I might use this little guy as a planter or a pen cup, just to be safe!

Amber

The item is linked to an unlined version, and the one in this review appears to be the nickel-lined version. Is nickel safe?

I was skeptical about the hot beverage in the mug, too, but I gave it a shot just to see. Definitely not a hot beverage mug! The handle stayed cool enough to grab, but the body of the mug was way too hot to hold. I should’ve trusted my instincts, but I guess I took one for the team for everyone else?
