The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from the online shop, Appraising Pages.

Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only—no actual books involved. Recently, though, they changed up their game and added several subscription varieties to choose from, including one that does have a book inside!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is of the Women's Sized box that includes a t-shirt for $29.99 a month.

The Bookish Box Subscription Box "Destined" December 2017 Review

Here's the info card for this month's box. The theme is "Destined"!

Throne of Glass Illustrated Mug

I love adding to my mug collection! This one features a drawing of Aelin from Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series. The colors are really dreamy. I like to draw myself, and I like the blend of cloudy watercolors and colored pencil lines.

Bookish Ornament by Hello World Paper Co.

I didn't see any ornaments on Hello World Paper Co.'s site, so I'm guessing these are unique for this box! I love the idea of ornaments I can keep around my house year 'round, and this book-themed ornament fits the bill. It's perfect for a tree, but I could also see hanging this off of a tiny nail near a bookshelf or on the center of a door. The ornament is a little over 2 inches big, but it's super light because it's made of wood. I love the playful style of the titles!

Harry Potter Candle

If the inspiration behind this little candle by Whiskey Diamond Candle Co. isn't magical enough, there's gold flake on top for an added bit of wow! I'm not sure how much candle is in this jar, as it's not labeled anywhere, but the candle is about 2 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall. I'm digging the scent—it's white tea, winter pine, and tart berries—which is sweet and wintry.

Game of Thrones Print

I love the colors of this 5" x 7" print, and the drawing is great. It appears on a relatively plain card, though—I wish it had a nicer backing or a mat to give it a bit more value.

Monthly Theme Doodle

There's a black and white illustration that's been designed to fit the theme of the month. You're supposed to color it in and share it for a chance to win a free box. I think that's a cute idea to grow the Bookish Box community. This new addition to the box reminds me a lot of the Nerdy Post monthly coloring postcard!

Harry Potter Shirt

I really like the shirts that I get from this subscription. This black and white one definitely fits my usual wardrobe color palette, and I love the bookish Chamber of Secrets quote! I got a size large, though I usually wear a medium top, and it fits great! (Women's sizes tend to run a little small on my broad shoulders.) It's not really fitted, but it's not loose or boxy like unisex tees can be either. And hooray for 100% cotton!

The Verdict: I liked this month's The Bookish Box, though the doodle and the art print felt a little bit like extras in the face of the other gifts in the box. I think if the print, in particular, had been presented a little more formally, it would've felt carried a bit more weight for me. But it is beautiful! I'm mostly just excited about the comfy tee and the ornament, which is so cute and unique.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $34.49 after shipping. There are 6 items in the box, meaning the average value of each item is $5.75. You can also look at it like this—I know that the tees on The Bookish Box's site shop can be about $22.00, so if that's the same case here, that means the candle, print, doodle, mug, and ornament have an average value of $2.50. Not bad!

This is my favorite subscription. A box full of unique book-inspired goodies is a dream come true. I don’t always love their book choices though.
