Tribe Beauty Box December 2017 Review
This month’s box includes products from different categories that can be used to create a whole look. Let’s see what I got:
There are three cards included. The first is a card with the theme “Au Naturel!” and a description and value of each product. The small card has a 10% off coupon code for a friend. They also include a blank face chart so you can record a look that you create with the products.
Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette - Retail Value $46 (found here for $20)
How pretty is this palette!? Tarte always impresses me with their packaging. This palette has gold-foil accents, a big mirror, magnetic closure, and a nice heft to it. Plus, it smells like chocolate. The 12 buttery shades can be used as eyeshadows or to sculpt the face. All of the colors are neutral and, I think, universally flattering. The palette comes with a booklet with some looks that are a great start for these shades.
Evelyn Iona Green Tea Primer, 20ml - Retail Value $29.50
The skin prep item this month is a hydrating primer that uses dimethicone to smooth and prep skin for makeup. I notice a velvety soft finish after letting it sit for a minute and my skin feels hydrated for longer than with moisturizer alone. Looks like the company will be reformulating this primer without dimethicone soon to make it more natural.
Stila Silicone Brush #37 - Retail Value $18
This silicone applicator was created specifically for Stila’s foil finish eyeshadows but it works well for any metallic or sparkly eyeshadows. The tip is a solid piece of silicone that is soft and easy to clean. It would be great for packing on shimmer and even works well to apply the shadows in the Tarte palette above. You have to use a separate blending brush to blend.
Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Berry, 5ml - Estimated Value $12 (buy a full size for $21)
This shade is one of 31 shades in this line and I love it! The velvet chisel tip applicator helps to keep crisp lines around my lips and apply the liquid evenly. It goes on like a rich gloss and eventually, after the glossiness is gone, sets to a stain that lasts for a while. BTW, this is a deluxe sample size packaged in cute Christmas ornament packaging.
Hard Candy 12HR Stay In Line Mechanical Eyeliner in Black Magic - Retail Value $6.05
Of all the black eyeliners I have received in sub boxes, this is a middle of the road liner. It is a twist up liner that has a built-in smudger. When applied, it takes a couple of passes to get opaque coverage and smudges easily to achieve a smokey eye look. I don’t think it lasts 12 hours for me but will last through my workday.
Swatches of the eyeshadows in the palette are on the left and the contour and highlight shades are the bottom 6 right. The eyeliner is top right with the lipstick below.
Here is a look using the products from this month. I used the palette to do a really light, neutral eye look and contour. The eyeliner adds a little definition and the lipstick gives me a pop of bright color. This is definitely a look I would wear every day and could easily be built up to a more dramatic look.
Verdict: This box has a value of $111.55 which meets their promise of a value of at least $100. I’m super happy with all of the products this month but especially love the Tarte palette and Too Faced lipstick. Four of the five products are full size and they all could work with a variety of skin tones. This box is a little more expensive than other makeup boxes but I think that the value of the brands is there. It is also a bi-monthly sub so you are only billed every other month.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you’ll get February’s box as your first box.
