Try The World "South Africa" Review
Here is the monthly fold-out that includes a very detailed product section with a photo of each piece of food featured in your box. This was super helpful to use while navigating through each item. This month's location is South Africa!
I also received a coupon for my first HelloFresh box! Check out our Hello Fresh reviews for more information about this meal kit and to save $30 off your first box! Plus a wine voucher to Naked Wines. So fun!
Yswara African Wellness Tea, 3.53 oz. - Estimated Value $6.95
This brand of tea is made 100% from precious plants that are organically grown in Africa. These blends of loose leaf tea are best known for their healing properties, similar to the "soul washers" in ancient West Africa. This particular blend is made with blood orange flavor, vanilla flavor, marula, and roolbos. I was shocked at how much tea came in this beautiful container, and then as I opened each layer, fell in love with this little container. The little gold topper opening up to the beautiful aroma from the tea was incredible. The tea itself is so delicious and soothing. I got a lot of orange flavors and a lovely sweetness from the vanilla.
Smotherings of Africa: Braai Seasoning, 2.3 oz. - Retail Value $12.99
This seasoning is so fresh and smells so delicious! The second I opened the jar I was hit with this lovely spicy smell that also smelled like a cured meat. According to the monthly booklet, a Braai is a picnic or barbecue where meats are grilled on an open fire. I decided to use this seasoning as a rub on shrimp, the spice really elevated my dish! It is spicy so I would go easy on how much you are using if you don't like a lot of heat. We absolutely loved how spicy this was and will be using again but this time on steaks. Yummy!
Oryx Desert Salt, 5.64 oz. - Buy a box of 12 bags for $36.12 USD
This brand of salt is ethically and sustainably harvested from an underground salt lake in the Kalahari desert in South Africa. The company, starting in 2000, donates a percentage of their sales to local indigenous communities in South Africa. This particular pouch that I received is the fine salt that is best used as a final seasoning to a dish, over fish, or you can even use it over chocolate or cookies. If you follow my reviews you will know that I used to be afraid of cooking with salt, but am now seeing the flavor values it adds. I have already been using this salt and you can really taste the difference from my store bought bottle. Plus, the fine grain makes this so easy to cook with or to use as a seasoning!
Wildebraam Peach Chutney - Estimated Value $6.50
This incredible chutney comes from Wilderbraam Berry Estate that is known for its beautiful grounds and luxe overnight accommodations. Guests can pick berries and taste berry liqueurs that are made at the estate. This particular chutney is made from the Estate's own peaches and onions. I love the savory flavors in this and the creamy texture. The peaches are so chunky and you can really taste the freshness. I always thought chutney was best served with a cheese plate or on a cracker, but the monthly booklet notes that you could add this to a chicken salad. I might have to try it that way!
Fynbos Fine Foods: Peri Peri Sauce, 4.6 oz. - Buy a 9.8 oz bottle for $2.43
Spicy, spicy, spicy! This sauce is made from chilies that are hand-picked early in the morning in the chili fields owned by Fynbos Fine Food's. This sauce is thick almost like a thousand island dressing texture, and has a lovely creaminess to it that breaks through the spice. What really stands out though is just how spicy this really is so a little goes a long way! I make a lot of stir fry dishes that this would be incredible on. I make a dish that is salmon, rice, avocado, and eggs that I added this sauce to just as a light topper and it really put this meal over the edge! I know that I will have this bottle for a while and will be using it all the time!
Bakali Rice Snack: Chutney Flavor, 1.41 oz. - Buy a 40 g bag for $2.26
I wish I had known how much I loved chutney flavors! These little rice cakes are so good, I ate the bag within minutes of opening. This brand specializes in gluten-free rice cracks and has a variety of flavors. I wasn't able to find this chutney flavor though which makes me so sad because I want to buy more! All of their all-natural ingredients for this chutney flavor come from South Africa and each bite is packed full of flavors. These were amazing to eat on their own, but I could see them being delicious dipped into a salsa or paired with cheese.
Verdict: This month's Try The World was packed full of so many unique and spicy flavors! I have always wanted to travel to South Africa, but haven't had the opportunity to just yet in life. Hopefully one day, but for right now I was very excited to taste test just some of the flavors that were featured in this month's box. I love spicy foods and chutney so this really was the box for me! The curation of products was so unique and had a well rounded variety of products that showcased the many different flavors of South Africa. Try The World really does a great job in bringing snack foods, but also providing products that you can cook with. I love to cook and do it pretty much seven days a week so receiving new spices to add to my dishes helps to keep things interesting!
To Wrap Up:

Value Breakdown: The monthly cost of this box is $39, including shipping. I received a total of six products in this month's box which averages out to a value of $6.50 per item. A lot of these snacks were tricky to find online, which means they are just that much more of an exclusive product. What I was able to find, however, did not meet the value per item. I do enjoy the overall curation and exclusiveness of the products, but the overall value could come up a bit. I would love to see a few more items or maybe have one large item that has a higher price point.
