Bocandy Starter Box January 2018 Review
Kinder Mini Chocolate Bars – Buy a 16-pc box for $4.44
I was so excited to see these in the box—I’ve heard such great things about Kinder from friends who have traveled abroad, but I’ve never tried one myself! Two of these mini, cream-filled chocolate bars were included. Each was about 3 inches in length. The cream filling is SILKY smooth, and the overall taste was a delicious blend of soft cocoa and milk-chocolate flavors.
Japanese Style Peanuts – Buy a 10-pc box for $29.99
Crunch peanuts served up with a side of snacktime déjà vu. These peanuts were included in the December Bocandy box and other boxes before that, and I’m not sure why they were included again. It’s a pretty standard peanut! I’m not too into snacking on peanuts (give me cashews or pistachios any day!) so that probably explains why I thought this snack was a little ho-hum. They did have a nice amount of salt, though. I’ll give ‘em that!
Bonanko – Buy a 36-pc box for $17.98
Another snack repeat! If you’re a big fan of very artificial banana flavor…this treat is for you. The dark chocolate outer covering is great! The fluffy yellow inside, however, was not for me. It has a very grainy texture that almost feels like clumps of wet Pixie Stick powder. Despite its cute packaging, I shall pass on this one in the future.
Eurocrem Blok, 50g – Retail Value $0.69
Chocolate and cream, round two! This chocolate bar had a very thick, borderline-chewy texture. It was definitely not as creamy as the Kinder bars, but not as dense or hard as a regular chocolate bar. To be honest, that in-between texture turned me off a little. The taste, however, was great! The hazelnut flavor is strong but not too overpowering.
Semaforo Lollipop – Buy a 40-pc pack for $9.99
This was hands down the best lollipop I’ve ever tasted! The flavors were AWESOME. The red upper layer tasted like fruit punch, the middle was a sweet and tangy pineapple, and the lower green section was lime. It tasted so expectedly refreshing, and I loved the tiered design!
Stark Prima Peanut Butter Pretzel Sticks, 45g – Retail Value $2.00
A fancier, European take on those classic peanut-butter-filled pretzel Combos! The pretzel shell on these snack sticks was light and crunchy with the perfect amount of salt. The peanut putter filling tasted a bit dull and didn’t have a very “bright” or sweet flavor like you’d find in Jif peanut butter, but the overall taste was okay.
Kras Animal Kingdom Chocolate Bar, 15g – Retail value $0.30
This is my kind of chocolate. No-fuss milk chocolate. A tad bittersweet. Sharp, simple, and to the point. I liked it even more than the Kinder bars! It’s just thin enough to not feel too over-indulgent, and the squared design makes it fun to break off in smaller snack-bite pieces.
Verdict: I’ll always enjoy sampling international treats. Admiring their unique package design and logos is always half the fun for me! This month’s Bocandy box had some standout stars in its chocolate bars and fruity lollipop, but I didn’t enjoy a good portion of the other items included. I also wish they didn’t include repeat items month after month, because where’s the fun learning experience in that?!

Value Breakdown: For $9.99, I received a total of 8 items. Because many items’ retail values could only be found in bulk prices, we used an average to determine each items’ individual worth, making each piece in this box worth around $1.25. Seeing as it included repeat snacks, along with the fact that some individual items’ retail price was less than $0.50, I think this box could be priced a bit lower to be a worthwhile deal.
