Bombay & Cedar "Cherish" Box Review February 2018
This booklet came with the box. Inside, there are short articles on subjects surrounding the "Cherish" theme, as well as brand spotlights.
There's also a typical info card, which features the product list for the box.
Bombay and Cedar Eucalyptus Lemon Essential Oil Blend, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00
Bombay and Cedar Cedarwood Himalaya Essential Oil Blend, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00
The first items on the list are these two proprietary, 100% pure essential oil blends. The cedarwood blend is made from a root that only grows in the Himalaya. I find woodsy scents to be incredibly grounding and relaxing, so I'm thrilled to have this oil on hand. The Eucalyptus Lemon oil is, alternatively, soothing yet refreshing. It feels like something I'd want to start my day with.
Alter Eco Dark Almond Chocolate Bar, 2.82 oz. - Retail Value $3.99
Oh wow, do I ever love dark chocolate. This 60% cocoa bar isn't just delicious—it's also non-GMO, vegan, organic, fair trade, soy free, certified gluten-free, and produced by a certified B corporation. Basically, it's a bar that tastes good, does good, and in the grand scheme of things, is pretty good for you. I love the crunch the almonds provide to each slim square. Plus, the packaging is so nice (the cardboard exterior unfolds, revealing more feel-good information about this bar's economic and environmental impact) that it makes this treat feel like a sophisticated experience, not just any old snack.
Love Who You Are from Compendium - Retail Value $9.95
This book has the look and feel of a lovingly made craft and the polish worthy of a gift. I might actually hang on to this and give it as a gift to a friend. Inside the cute cover, there are pages and pages of upbeat words of encouragement set amidst colorful designs and illustrations. I imagine this would be a great pick for someone starting a new chapter of their lives when they could use some love—maybe after a breakup, before a big move, or just as a reassuring pick me up from a friend.
Province Apothecary Clear Skin Advanced Spot Treatment, 0.2 oz. - Retail Value $28.00
My skin is pretty acne-scarred in some places and still prone to breakouts, especially during my period. (Hormones!!! *Shakes fist at the sky.*) My skin is doing pretty good at the moment, but I tried this oil on a few redder parts of my face. This golden potion contains turmeric and calendula to reduce inflammation and soothe the skin. I'll have to try it on some heavier duty breakouts to be sure, but I think the bit that I applied to my face left my skin a little bit brighter and at the very least, feeling more nourished than before.
Kaibae Baobab Fruit Powder, 4 oz. - Retail Value $17.99
Ooo, I like reading up on new superfoods, but I've yet to hear about baobab! From what I'm reading on the info cards provided by Kaibae, it's kind of a do-all miracle fruit. It's packed with nutrients like vitamin C, calcium, potassium, and antioxidants, it's known to help with healthy skin, immunity, and digestion, and maybe most importantly, it's filling! The flavor is unique. I'd say it's kind of like a diluted lemonade. Not the prettiest of flavors, maybe, but I bet mixed into a smoothie, it'd add an extra bit of tartness (and tons of nutrition).
Devon Glass Tumbler in Mint by Ello - Retail Value $14.29, Listed Value $12.99
Yay for nice tumblers! I've gotten drinkware like this in subscription boxes before, but most of that has been plastic tumblers of one kind or another. This one, on the other hand, is glass, comes with a silicone sleeve for insulation (you can remove it if you want), and a wooden lid with a friction-fit silicone seal (sort of like a big plug). It feels fresh and sturdy, plus its dishwasher safe. The info card says "SMOOTHIE APPROVED!" in the description for this little guy. I can't wait to add it to my routine!
Mini Scentifier Essential Oil Diffuser - Retail Value $9.99, Listed Value $10.00
How cute is this droplet-shaped diffuser?! Unlike my current diffuser, which uses water to distribute essential oils around the room, this one uses "dry diffusion", which fans the scent around. To use it, you open the device and put some drops of essential oil onto one of the absorbent pads, close everything back up, and let the fan do the work. This box comes with two pads, plus a bonus bottle of orange essential oil. I wish it was a little bit more reusable—I'll have to choose which two scents I love most!
Renewed Pumpkin Walnut Facial Cleanser, 4 fl. oz. - Retail Value $28.00
A good cleanser can make all the difference in your skincare/beauty routine. This one is made with pumpkin and walnut—autumnal plants that have year 'round benefits for your skin. There are alpha hydroxy acids, zinc, and vitamin A and C in the pumpkin, and the walnut powder offers gentle exfoliation (which I need after this long dry winter). I found this cleanser to be delightfully refreshing. I'd never heard of this brand before, so I'm excited to have potentially found a new fave!
Bonus Gift: Three Fera Organic Moringa Powder Packets, 0.04 oz. each - Buy 5 for $9.99 here
If you share about your box online, this subscription box returns the favor with a fun bonus gift! We got three packets of moringa powder to use in smoothies, water, lattes, and more. Moringa is the most nutrient-dense food on the planet, so there are oodles of good reasons to add some to your daily routine. It has a very, well... green flavor to it, so I personally will be sprinkling my servings into smoothies to help tone it down.
Verdict: No joke, Bombay and Cedar is my new favorite subscription box. It has a holistic vibe to it that I really like—from beauty to diet to emotions, it has something to nourish every aspect of "wellness". Especially with the addition of the booklet in the box, which I think really adds to the curated feel and sophisticated presentation, I felt like this collection of unique items was well worth the price. It has the same feeling to me as treating myself to a monthly spa day (but less expensive). It's the perfect thing to treat yourself with!
