subscription boxes comparison: boxycharm, glossybox, and beautyfix

Dermstore BeautyFIX

This Boxycharm vs GlossyBox vs BeautyFix series compares my subscriptions every month to give you a good idea what you can expect from these popular beauty subscription boxes. (Boxycharm and GlossyBox are both $21 a month, and BeautyFix is $24.95 a month, so they seemed close enough in cost to compare!)

Check out my Birchbox vs Ipsy vs Sephora Play post series too!

Important to know: With Glossybox and Boxycharm, there are certain items that all subscribers will receive, but the remainder of items in the box will vary. With BeautyFix, all items are the same for all subscribers. (With the exception of perhaps different colors of a beauty item.)

Verdict: There's no standout winner this month for me, but I am loving the Boxycharm + BeautyFix boxes this month.

What was your favorite box for February? And what was your favorite product?

Here are my general suggestions for which box to pick:

Boxycharm: If you are looking for full-size makeup, this is the box to go for. They consistently send out makeup in addition to haircare and skincare products. (You will quickly build up an impressive eyeshadow collection with this subscription box!)

GlossyBox: This is the best box if you're looking for trying out brands that you typically don't see in the US. You'll get a mix of US and EU brands. The one downside is that values of these boxes can vary depending on which variation you get, so make sure you're happy with the main spoiler items that everyone gets if you're thinking about signing up. (Please read the comments on GlossyBox reviews, too.)

BeautyFix: This is my go-to box for sampling a lot of high-end skincare products. They usually round out the boxes with a few makeup and haircare products, too. You'll get a mix of full-size and sample-size products.

Starting at $21.95

How are you calculating the value of the Glossybox? How are there 4 full size items? The tweezers and the pencil, sure. But the lotion and body wash? When did you ever buy a body lotion that small? no, no, no. They sent out samples. GB has been declining in value and quality, and you know that..

Related comment: I love the cost breakdown, but I think MSA doesn’t have a good way of calculating the value breakdown when boxes send out samples like this (it looks like you calculate it as if it was a full size item). Happy to help with that math if you want!

I do hope you look back and see that your comment seems harsh and pretty nasty. IJS I love coming to subscription addiction and I believe Liz does an AMAZING job, truthfully I don’t think you snarky little comment was needed, but again it could be my pregnant hormones taking things wrongly 🤷‍♀️, but I don’t think so. I’d also be happy to help you with proper manners ✌🏻

Hi Helen,

The lotion and body wash weren’t counted as full size items. The full size items were: lip liner, Royal Apothic Scrubbie Exfoliating Lip Treatment, JJ Young Mud Mask Sheet, and the tweezers. Hope that helps clarify! Sorry for any confusion!

I love that Pur lip exfoliater. I put it on before I start my makeup routine, rub it in, let it sit until last and when I wipe it off I get some decent, natural looking plumping. It’s also hella hydrating. Let me say, if you’re looking to get Kylie Jenner lips out of this, you will be disappointed but if you’re looking for natural looking enhancement this is a good product for that. The effect lasted about 3 hrs on me and I really liked it. The best part is that it doesn’t hurt like other plumping products can.

I also loved the eyeliner from vintage. It’s the first pencil I’ve found that works for itchy, watery allergy eyes. I put in an order for 50. 10 for my kits and the other 40 as giveaway products for clients looking for what this formula offers.

The shimmer veil is pretty. Bought the rest of the collection and will probably go through it all during prom season. Glitter is always, always a big deal when it comes to prom looks. I already know these girls are going to be over the moon for it.

I’ve always liked Crown brushes so those were nice to get. You can never have too many brushes. Always love it when boxy sends more. I will definitely use them. It saves me from having to wash brushes. My shoebox for dirty brushes is getting full so it’s getting close to time for a wash day. I’m dreading it. It’s going to take at least 4 hours…maybe I’ll use it as a teachable moment in brush care for my niece. She’s 16 and aspires to be a makeup artist. We’re going to put her to work this summer and let her get her feet wet, with supervision of course. I think one of her responsibilities should be brush washes. You gotta crawl before you can walk! 😋 That and I really just hate to wash my brushes.

The only thing I was meh about was the Ofra palette but that’s because I have a ton of z palettes already and I didn’t need another. But I can see where others would enjoy it. I let my niece pick the pans that she wanted and filled it up for her. She’s happy about it and I’m glad it’s being used.

I like the beautyfix box better. The products are mostly great skincare that are truly good for skin, without perfume, alcohol and ingredient that are bad for skin. I usually only like half of the stuff in boxycharm. I hardly ever like stuff in glossybox somehow.

This was my 1st month skipping beautyfix but beautyfix & boxy are my favorites oh and I’m really enjoying allure. I’ve received 3 boxes so far & i canceled ipsy and Sephora back in dec. if I do another one, I’d chose Sephora

I was rather pleased with Glossybox this month. I haven’t yet received my Boxycharm but if I get that OFRA contraption rather than the Naked palette, I think I’m done. I’d like to have the lip buffer over the lip plumper but that’s not a deal breaker. The OFRA palette is doody despite the retail value.
