Doodle Crate January 2018 Review

This month's project is making zipper pulls! The skill focus is string art. My nine-year-old son usually does these projects. This is the booklet that came in our box this month.

Here's a peek inside the booklet at the instructions. They were clear and well illustrated, so they were easy for my niece to follow. The booklet also always contains good tips and suggestions for practicing.

These are all the supplies that were included for this month's project. Everything we needed was included except scissors.

My son decided to make the Spirelli sting art pull first. His first step was to tape the string to the back of the pull.

He then wove his first color thread in and out of the notches to make this design.

Then he did a slightly different pattern with a second color. When he was finished he taped the other end of the string to the back.

The next step was to attach the cord. The cord has a clasp to attach it to a zipper on one end.

Doodle Crate included these awesome adhesive felt pieces matched to the size and shape of the pulls to put on the back over the pieces of tape and string ends.

This is my son's first completed pull! It is so pretty! I love it!

He also made this one, which I love, too. For this one, instead of pulling the string in and out of notches, he used a needle to pull the string through the holes in this pattern.

Here's the first pull attached to the zipper on one of my jackets. It's about 2-3 inches in diameter. I just love it! Did I say that already? Haha.

The Verdict: Doodle Crate is SO awesome! My son and I completely love this subscription. This month's project was fairly easy for him, but still a lot of fun. Plus I think his pulls turned out really beautiful. I still can't believe what Doodle Crate can provide for $20. When you consider the materials, the curation, the project selection and instructions, that's really a bargain!
