January 2018 Marvel Gear + Goods 'Jet Set' Review

The 'Jet Set' box aimed to bring you items to help you on your travels.

It comes with an information card that detail the items in the box.

On the reverse side, you'll notice that you'll be getting digital issue #1 of The Ultimates from Comixolgy as part of the shipment as well! This is the second delivery in a row to feature this - so I think this will become a normal thing.

The Ultimates #1 Enamel Pin - Value $5-10?

Speaking of The Ultimates #1 - this month's pin features that comic cover. I'm definitely liking these new pin designs for the second delivery in a row.

Black Panther Carry-On Bag - Value $15-20?

The biggest item in the box is a Black Panther themed carry-on bag.

The material and straps are both pretty lightweight. It has a front pocket for small items and the larger open pocket - this includes a little separate section for your laptop as well. I can definitely see this as a super useful bag for carry-on items.

And, of course, it features the Black Panther insignia front-and-center.

Black Panther Dopp Kit - Value $10?

To go with the carry-on bag, you'll also get a dopp kit for your toiletries.

It's the same material - but includes a little extra Black Panther lining. This has a small outer pocket along with the main pocket.

Like the bag, it features the insignia.

Eye of Agamotto Pocket Watch - Value $10-15?

You'll get this Eye of Agamotto inspired pocket watch.

It's not the highest quality of a pocket watch in terms of material - but it works for a little geeky touch to your outfit.

Pop it open for even more Doctor Strange goodness.

Marvel Vehicles Owner's Workshop Manual - Value $15 on Amazon

The final item in the box is a book that features detailed breakdowns of some of the greatest Marvel vehicles.

This is a 'Loot Crate Edition' of the book. After taking a peek, it has the same number of pages but is just slightly smaller than the listing on Amazon - unlike The Dark Crystal book from Loot Crate DX. This is my type of coffee table book.

Verdict: With the price increases from December, this box costs about $42 shipped. The value of the items is definitely there, but it's a little tighter if you dislike one of the items in the box. Overall, I liked most of the items this month (I don't think I have a good use for the watch), and can definitely use these for travel.

As a general word of caution – Loot Crate has been having numerous manufacturing delays across a number of their lines – it’s something to beware of if you’re trying to get a box on a schedule.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first theme will be displayed on the landing page, it is currently the March theme, Danger Room.

I’m pretty disappointed. This was my first box in a new 3-box subscription, and I expected it to be a lot better than this. The quality of the material of the two travel bags is cheap. How can they call the toiletry bag a kit when it is just an empty bag? If they had included an actual kit, maybe some marvel branded travel-size soaps or conditioners, I would have been a lot more forgiving. But it seems like no effort was put into this. And the pin should not count as an item. I’m cancelling this subscription.
