Teabox "The Companion" Box February 2018 Review
This month's Companion Box came with this little information card giving you all of the information you will need to get started brewing your teas. The Companion Box is a blending kit where you can create your very own tea! Plus, there are three tea collections that are already blended to try.
Creamy Coconut Black Tea, 0.35 oz. — Retail Value $3.00
Our first tea of the month is this creamy coconut blend. I was very excited to see that each packet comes with instructions on how to make the perfect cup. It also lists aroma and palate taste. This particular blend is creamy, earthy, with a few toasty notes. This tea was so sweet and spicy, almost like a sweet curry dish. I was surprised how light the coconut flavor was since there are big flakes of coconut in this tea blend. What I tasted the most was cinnamon, a sweet spicy cinnamon that was so creamy. I could see this pairing really well with a spiced cake or a fresh bowl of fruit.
Lavender Earl Grey Tea, 0.35 oz. — Retail Value $3.00
I love all things lavender so I was very excited to see this next blend. This tea had so many layers of flavor to it that I kept discovering with each sip. The lavender really is the star here with a soothing flavor and that aroma that puts me in "relaxation mode" right away. What really blew me away were the smokey flavors that reminded me of the fall. Next, I tasted something sweet and creamy, but I couldn't really place the flavors. After reading the bag, I saw that this was an orange candy flavor. How unique! With a medium caffeine level, I could see this blend being great to curl up with on a cold afternoon to give me that relaxing feeling while still getting a little energy. I can't wait to discover more of the flavors in this blend with my next cup!
Rose Drop Black Tea, 0.35 oz. — Retail Value $3.00
My first thought with this tea is how beautiful it looked and then the fresh rose smell that hits you once you open the bag is divine. I almost want to use this blend to sprinkle on a cookie or cake as decoration! I was happy to find that my love of this tea visually translated into how much I loved the taste. The floral flavors are really what stood out to me, and you can smell and taste the sweet rose petals. With warm weather approaching, I could see this blend being great to enjoy on a sunny afternoon or even enjoy this over ice. The almonds in this blend really cut through the overall sweetness and gave everything a more rounded, earthy flavor that I really enjoyed!
Blending Ingredients
Here we have our blending ingredients! These are the flavors that you can use with the teas below to create your very own tea blend. I love that these come in a resealable bag so you can really work your magic in creating so many different teas. Here we have cinnamon, red rose, chamomile, black pepper, ginger, and spearmint.
Pascoe's Woodlands Special Winter Frost Green Tea, 0.35 oz. - Retail Value $3.00
Here is our first base tea that you can use to make your blend. The smell really came across as a very strong green tea, very earthy and very bold. The back of the bag notes that this is a lighter tea so it would be great blended with any of our ingredients.
Classic Winter Frost Black Tea, 0.35 oz. - Retail Value $3.00
Our next blend is noted as being leafy, floral, and intense. The smells were strong and earthy when I opened the bag, and it really smelled like a bold green tea blend to me. I knew that this was the blend I wanted to use first! Now for my first tea blend, I named it Winter Rose.
Here you have it, Winter Rose! I added the red rose ingredient to the base tea for this bold yet floral tea. It was soft and sweet with hints of earthy undertones that really made this cup pop. I also love the color that this tea made! It was feminine yet strong and perfect for a cold winter afternoon.
Verdict: Teabox's Companion Box was such a treat! I do enjoy drinking tea, especially in the afternoon, but I have never ventured into making my own blends. I loved that this month's box provided me with everything I needed to create my own tea blend and even gave me three collection teas for me to try first. I enjoyed taste testing before diving into creating my own blend because it allowed me to really taste what I enjoyed in each cup. Plus, each tea bag comes in a resealable bag, perfect to keep everything fresh to use later, and it provided instructions on how to make the perfect cup. If you aren't familiar with steeping your own tea, like me, this was a great way to really get involved and learn how special tea can be!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!
Value Breakdown: This box costs $29.99 (including shipping) and you receive five teas, which add up to 60-75 cups. That gives an average value of about $6.00 per tea or $0.44 per cup. Not to mention I also received the extra ingredients to use for making my very own tea blend!
