Tribe Beauty Box February 2018 Review
This month’s box includes products from different categories that can be used to create a whole look. Let’s see what I got!
There are three cards included. The first is a card with the theme “You Glow Me Away” and a description and value of each product. The small card has a 10% off coupon code for a friend and their social media handle. They also include a blank face chart so you can record a look that you create with the products.
Nars Sculpting Multiple Duo in Copacabana/Sidari Beach - Retail Value $40.08 (£29)
This is such a great contour product and the light shades are perfect for my skin tone in the winter. The contour shade blends so seamlessly into skin that I can't even tell I’m wearing it except for the bit of definition it gives my face. The highlighter is beautiful! It goes on sheer and natural looking with just enough shimmer to give me some glow. And, most importantly, it doesn’t accentuate fine lines. The velvety smooth black packaging feel so luxe too.
Maskeraide Anti-Blemish Clear Spot Patches, 4 packs - Total Retail Value $22.24 USD ($7 CAD per pack)
I don’t really deal with acne type breakouts. I often have more of an issue with irritation and redness. But, I do use chemical exfoliants to help keep my dry skin smooth and these patches have an exfoliant in them, salicylic acid. I’m using them for targeted treatment of especially flaky areas and they seem to be calming them down. The patches are clear and stick well to clean skin. They say not to wear product or makeup over them so sticking these on before bed is best.
Evelyn Iona Concealer Brush - Retail Value $15.50
While this is actually a concealer brush, I’ve already used it for several things. It works great to get some of the highlighter from the Nars stick and apply to small areas like under my brow or corners of my eyes. It also works well to apply the Lip Strobe (coming up next) on top of other colors to prevent transfer into the tube. My one complaint is that the handle is so long, I can’t get very close to my mirror without bumping into it. Ah, the price to pay for poor vision. 🙂
Huda Beauty Lipstrobe in Ritzy - Retail Value $18
I’m so glad to be finally trying a Huda product! This lip topper is a champagne color with gold and pink shimmer. It totally changes any lip color and gives it a shimmery, dimensional look. Pictures just don’t do it justice but I’ve included some of my lip color before and after applying this. Even though this is a gloss and not a long wear product, it lasts for hours without becoming sticky. I want to try all of the other colors now!
Urban Decay Supercurl Curling Mascara, deluxe sample size - Listed Value $10
I can’t find this mascara listed online anywhere (says it is no longer available) and that makes me kind of sad because it is a good one. I’m impressed by its volumizing and lengthening effect. I don’t notice a lot of curling though. The wand has the perfect curve to get close to the lash line and little lashes in the corners of my eyes. This stuff stays too. No flaking or smudging even through naps.
Here are swatches of the Nars highlight and contour stick and the Huda Lip Strobe (bottom). So much shimmer!
Ok, so here I used the Nars stick to contour my forehead and hollows of my cheeks and the highlighter to brighten up my cheekbones and eyes. I used one good coat of the mascara and am happy with how dark and full my lashes were. Then, you can see my regular lip color in the first two pictures and the color change after I applied the Huda Lip Strobe in the last two. It makes for a totally different look.
Verdict: This Tribe Beauty Box has a value of $105.82 which meets their promise of a value of at least $100. I’m loving the Nars stick and the Huda Lip Strobe. I don't have as much use for the spot patches but they are always nice to have around just in case. I know this box put in a lot of effort to match skin tones with the correct shades this month because I was following them on their Facebook page. I love to see involvement on the subscription’s side. This box is a little more expensive than other makeup boxes but I think that the value of the brands, attention to detail, and great curation make it worth it if you are looking to expand your makeup collection. It is also a bi-monthly sub so you are only billed every other month.
To Wrap Up:
