Wine Awesomeness is a monthly wine subscription that specializes in rare and unusual wines. They seek out "the coolest, craveworthiest wines" with plenty of crowd-pleasing appeal. The curatorial team includes a Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year!
Each Wine Awesomeness box comes with three wines. You choose whether you'd like the "All Red", "All White" (with a chance of rosé or bubbly), or the "Variety" (with a chance of rosé or bubbly) plan—they're all $45.00 per month. (This is the "Variety" plan.) If you're a more frequent wine drinker, or if you just want to grow your collection a little faster, Wine Awesomeness does offer all of their monthly selections for $75.00 per shipment in a plan called "The Six Pack."
Want to change your Wine Awesomeness preferences, skip a shipment, or cancel altogether? You can do all of the above via your online account at any time.
The wines arrive in a giant, nondescript cardboard box. Inside, the bottles were safely sitting in specially made cardboard trays, which keep 'em still and crack-free.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
This review is for the Variety plan, which is $45.00 per monthly box.

2017 Five Friends Sauvignon Blanc Semillon - Retail Value $15.00
In the booklet, Wine Awesomeness describes this wine as feeling like "daydreaming in loose-fitting cotton clothes." At first, I was like "WHA?" but with my first sip... Dang, they are spot on!!! This wine is, in a word, fresh. It's still a hint sweet, of course, but the prevailing notes are grassy and subtly tart in a green apple kind of way. As the booklet explains, "the wine tastes of dried up grass, the kind you would find outside your creepy neighbor's house (you know, the one who seems as if they perpetually subscribe to the haunted values of Halloween). On the nose, there are aromas of damp earth, smashed yellow fruit, and early morning dew-covered pine needles dripping with sap-covered water." It's easy to drink and has a fun, upbeat flavor. I want to find a sun ray to sit in and sip on this pretty wine.
2016 Sentobene Primitivo
This wiiiine! First of all, I love me a red. But this wine was such a rich, deliciously savory little potion that I swooned on my first sip. It's the kind of thing that's begging to be completed with a meatball or at least a dish doused in red sauce. The booklet says it's like "velvety blackberries, blueberries, and dark cherries, raided the fig jam in the fridge." That fig jam part in particular sticks with me—that mild, honey-ish sweetness is the type that's swirling through this wine, but it's also topped by a really lovely deep, savory, carbon-tinged-barbecue flavor. That sounds weird to say, but it's true. And it's super tasty.
2014 Alaia Marisa
Ooooo, this is another seductive red wine that I. Am. Loving! It has a spiciness to it that makes it feel sophisticated and unique. The booklet says it "tastes like licking the inside of a pepper tree—wood with spicy deep purple fruit." It's the kind of thing I'd love to drink during a rainy, cold night. While sitting in a big comfy, plush chair. In a cabin. But like, a fancy cabin.
The Verdict: As usual, Wine Awesomeness introduced me to three more wines that I instantly fell in love with. I'm not sure if it's the wines themselves or the nature of the subscription experience (learning about the wines, treating them with more attentiveness than I might a store-bought wine), but I find so many exciting layers of flavor in these bottles. I'm no wine expert, so this box has helped introduce me to the versatility and variety in the wine world. If you're someone who does know wine, maybe you'd be a little bored by these flavors. But I love 'em. And being that two of the three wines I got were impossible to find online, I'm not sure that I'd be able to experience all of these flavors without this subscription!
To Wrap Up:
