Candy Club March 2018 Review

candy club info cards

First, you'll receive a vellum envelope with info and nutritional facts on all of your candies this month.

Vidal Sour Jelly Clothes Pegs info card

There is a short description of the candy on one side of the card.

Ferrara Pan Jawbusters nutritional info

And nutritional facts on the other. I personally never read these, but it's nice to have for those who wanna know!

Ferrara Pan Jawbusters

Ferrara Pan Jawbusters

Your first candy comes as individually wrapped mystery sweets that are sprinkled into the box with the other candies that you choose or have been chosen for you. This month, they've sent these "Jawbusters" that are just how they sound: a different brand of the widely used "Jawbreaker" name. I received 11 of these that were tucked into the corners of the box as well as on top of my other candy containers. I'm a big fan of these multi-colored hard candies that almost feel like you can bust a tooth on.

I prefer to choose my candy as opposed to having them selected for me, so when I got the email prompt, I went straight to the website to browse. Working in (mostly clothing) retail most of my life, I couldn't help myself when I saw these gummy clothespins. They seemed like such a strange subject to turn into a sour candy, so I had to have them. I"ll say that these aren't very gummy at all- they are on the hard side of gummies, but I like them! They are chewy while still being slightly soft and coated in sour powder. Once you start eating them and get past how soft you thought they'd be, they're pretty hard to stop going for. Unlike the sour belts I've gotten from Candy Club in the past, these aren't super duper sour and are much easier to eat. Fruity goodness!

Albanese Triple Dipped Malt Milk Balls

I may say that a lot of things are my FAVES, but I have to say it again here. Malted milk balls are some of my favorite candy of all time and THESE. ARE. HUGE. I didn't realize how large they'd be when I chose them, but when they arrived, I was shocked. Being the malt enthusiast I am, I popped the entire thing into my mouth, but some may choose to bite it in half for a more manageable size. The triple-chocolate covering the milky malt is outrageously creamy which make these the most perfect malted milk balls I've ever had. Whoppers who? Never heard of you.

Arway Mini Yogurt Pretzels

These are called minis, but are the common pretzel size for this sort of thing. Chocolate covered pretzels are wonderful, but sometimes you want to pretend you're healthy and go for the yogurt-covered ones instead. These are the perfect cure for any savory/sweet craving you may be having. Creamy yogurt over crunchy salted pretzels is just divine!

Verdict: Candy Club sent me an *estimated* 3 lbs of candy in four varieties (three that I chose, plus one surprise). I've noticed that when I choose my candy I always love the box a great deal more than when they send me random selections because I am super picky. This isn't a cheap subscription by most standards, but I can see it being really fun for someone who stocks candy at home or their office who doesn't want to bother with heading to the local bulk candy store and shoveling different candies into bags to share with friends and family.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You won't get this exact box since you can either choose your candy or have it chosen at random for you!

Value Breakdown: At $38.98 for this box on the month-to-month plan, if we use their "up to three pounds" weight as an estimate, you’re paying about $12.99 per pound of candy.

I don’t find this to be worth it at all, it’s like every other day than the times you can pick the candies has much better options. I don’t like that you have to call to cancel. I e-mailed them to cancel after my 5th month, saying the 6th would be my last and they said that I had to wait till the 6th one shipped. As soon as it shipped I emailed them. It ended up being a big scene and I filed a charge back with my credit card company. I did get a couple fun things, but I doin’t think it is at all worth it!

Their customer service is awesome. I decided to give it a try with the coupon and for whatever reason I didn’t get the option to pick my candy. So I emailed customer customer service and ask them if they could help me with picking out my candy the next morning I woke up to an email saying my order had already been shipped couple hours later I got an email from there customer service letting me know that they would allow me to choose my candies and ship me a 2nd box. Since they don’t allow returns I get to keep both boxes. After the hell I’ve gone through with adore me and Glossybox I was so happy to get great CS from a sub

How is it three pounds of candy when there are 16 Oz in a pound?

Hi All! Sorry for what may have looked deceitful on my part in some way. I was absolutely estimating the cost based on the “up to 3 lbs” that LB pointed out by dividing the total cost by three. I’ll update the wording in the value breakdown to make it more clear that it’s a very general estimate. Kudos to you for getting down to the nitty gritty and doing the gram conversions and exact math!
Would you all find it helpful if I began weighing the candies in the future to get a more exact value? I am open!

Marissa

agreed. Not one of these candies has a pound of it if my math is correct.

LB

LOL. I did the math too and posted my results but it must have been flagged by the filter. In short, I agree.

I subbed to this box awhile back and quit when they raised prices because I already felt like it wasn’t worth the cost before. But I never actually did the math…you got me thinking. If you look at the info cards for each candy and multiply the grams per serving with the number of servings they say I got about 755 grams NOT including the loose candy. Which is only a little over 1.5 lbs. I’m assuming there is not enough loose candy there to fill one of those tubs, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and added that total weight too and got about 925 grams…or just over 2 lbs. To be fair, the ad says “up to 3 lbs” and I’m sure it varies depending on what kinds of candy you get but this one barely cracked the 2-3 lb range also advertised….and that was being kind assuming they gave enough loose candy to fill a tub (which it doesn’t look like). Either way, it still wasn’t worth the overall cost to me.

Not to mention they change the selections like every day. I was signed up for a few months and one of the months I didn’t like the selections they had so I made my choices and when I went back the next day they had completely different stuff up!
