Le Petit Monde February 2018 Review

info page

There's an elegantly rolled-up note in place of a traditional info card in this box. I love that the products are presented like a letter, rather than a list!

lavender in wooden dish

Wooden Bowl with Herbes de Provence

The first item is this scalloped wooden bowl.

dish with spoon

oval wooden spoon

wooden spoon

salt cellar and spoon

The bowl itself is just over 4" x 6" and the spoon is 5" long. It's a shallow dish, so it seems right to use as a salt cellar or to keep herbs or seasonings at the table. I like the lightweight feeling of the wood. The bowl has a very natural, organic energy to it. It'll work beautifully on my simple table in my rather minimalist, plant-dotted kitchen. And the bag of herbs smells fantastic. I've not cooked with herbes de Provence, but the fresh, rosemary-laden aroma makes me want to sprinkle these little bits on everything!

heart candle set

tea candle holders

Heart Candle Holders

I think this wooden candle holder set is super sweet. The taller side is 4.25" tall while the shorter one is only 3.5". Each side holds a standard tealight—the ones that are in the candle holders right out of the box seem to fit very tightly in their shallow holes. When separated, each piece looks like an artful wooden design. But set them together, and you see that they actually form a heart! I love simple designs like these, so I'm smitten with these candle holders. I think because they're so simple, they'd work in numerous decorating styles. They'd make a great gift, too!

lavender sachet

lavender bits

Lavender Bath Salts

I could smell these lavender bath salts in their tiny burlap bag as soon as I opened the box! I love the peaceful smell of this natural, real lavender. It doesn't have that astringent quality that many artificial lavender fragrances have—just soft, herby, almost rosemary-esque aroma. Add warm bath water, and that aroma really blooms throughout the room (and out into my apartment, too).

paper wrapped soap

natural soap

Lavender Soap

The package also comes with this lavender soap. I like that it comes wrapped so neatly—you could easily gift it if you wanted. The soap bar is 2.75" in diameter and smells just as lavender-rich as the bath salts!

tan basket

tan soft basket

woven catchall basket

Jute Basket

This soft basket has a rope-like feeling and appearance that definitely exudes the French country vibe that the box is going for. It's about 2" deep and 5" wide, so on the small side, but perfect for a bathroom cabinet or a coffee table. I've been getting really into baskets like this one as catch-alls for everything (jewelry, hair ties, toiletries, small candles, my crystal collection, notepads, and pens... you name it). This particular basket is a little rustic for my aesthetic, but I think I can put it to good use, regardless!

white heart mug

Ceramic Mug with Heart - Bonus!

This mug wasn't listed on the info sheet, but it was sent as a bonus item. It doesn't ring as "artisan" as some of the other items, but the metallic gold heart is a sweet touch for a Valentine's month box. There's no info on the mug, but it seems to be ceramic, which is my favorite for drinking tea out of. (Warm tea, full mug, can't lose!)

lavender greeting card

envelope

Lavender Greeting Card - Bonus!

This item wasn't listed on the info sheet either, but was also sent as a bonus, and is so pretty! Le Petit Monde typically sends 1-2 bonus items each month. I love the simplicity of the lavender sprig. The watercolor style is so peaceful and vibrant. The square shape feels unique, too. The card is conveniently blank inside, so I can use it for any occasion I want.

The Verdict: I thought this box did a beautiful job of capturing the spirit of the French countryside, with its aromas and rustic touches. All of the items felt like they'd make great gifts, too, if this aesthetic isn't your thing. I do wish that there was more information about where the items were sourced or who the vendors/artisans are behind the products. Since the box seems to position itself around connecting subscribers with "exclusive pieces from around the world" and says that "Each Le Petit Monde subscriber impacts artisans around the world with every box they receive," I feel like I want to know more about these artisans I'm impacting! $45.00 sounds like a lot, but for 7 nice-quality items, I think it's fair.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? According to the Le Petit Monde site, boxes are typically sent out by the end of the month. The next bi-monthly box you'd most likely receive is April's, but they state on their FAQ page that if you contact them and the previous box isn't sold out, they'll do what they can to get it to you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $45.00 + free shipping. There were 7 items inside, including the bonus items, which means each item had an average price of $6.43.

Rosamunde

Anna, I love cooking with Herbes de Provence. It’s especially delicious when used with chicken. The chef Jaques Pepin has the best recipe, Chicken with herbes de provence. It’s chicken breasts cooked w/butter & then finished with a lime sauce. It’s been my go-to recipe for over 20 years. Fast, easy, delicious & I get raves every time. I’ve memorized it, but it originally came from his book, “The Shortcut Cook”. Great & handy book if you can find it. HTH.

Mmmm… I love herbs de provence too. yumm… I mostly use it in the coating for fried chicken & breakfast potatoes. Oh, and to season a turkey for Thanksgiving. It’s probably my most favorite seasoning.

I find this sub to have “dollar store” vibe. Not impressed at all. Sorry…..

Jackie

I really love these items, this box looks lovely. I agree though, there should be some kind of indication of where these items are from or who is making them if the focus is “artisan” goods.

Right? Hopefully they’ll start including that info, or at least making it available somewhere online. I want to know the stories behind these pieces! Plus, if I get an item in a box that I really like, I’ll often bookmark the brand/vendor so I can find it and shop it in the future!

Thanks for reading, Jackie 🙂
