The Bookish Shop Throne of Glass Box Review
Throne of Glass is an amazing series by best-selling author Sarah J. Maas. There are six books in the series, with the seventh and final book due to be published in the Fall of 2018. From Amazon, here is the description of the first book in the series:
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
I have read the entire series at least five times, and I am still enchanted. I would call this book a mix of Game of Thrones and Harry Potter, and I mean that in the best way possible. Maas creates an amazing world that I love to read about, and it is easy to lose myself in the pages of this book. To be honest, I do not think the descriptions of the books do the works justice— this series is amazing, and it’s hard to describe it in a few short paragraphs.
Now that I have professed my love for this series, let's get down to the items included in the box!
Book Beau, XL size (8.5 x 11 inches) - Estimated Value $15
This book sleeve is the perfect size for putting a thick book in to protect it. I have the Throne of Glass series entirely in e-book, but I have the Court of Thorns and Roses (also by Sarah J. Maas and also an amazing series) books in paperback. I like to bring my books with me when I travel, so this is perfect for keeping the pages and cover of my paperback book protected when it is thrown in my bag with other things. The “To Whatever End” quote is something that Aelin says to Rowan as they fight against incredible odds, and I am happy to have that quote decorating my book sleeve. I do worry that the gold will wear off the sleeve rather quickly, but I just will have to be extra careful. This is a Bookish Box exclusive, so I estimated the value off other XL Book Beaus.
Throne of Glass Exclusive Shirt by The Bookish Shop - Estimated Value $22
I love this shirt! This 100% cotton pre-shrunk tee is incredibly comfortable, and it is so soft! It fits true to size, and I am glad I do not have to worry about it shrinking in the wash. Other than the quote that is on the enamel pin, this is one of my favorite quotes from all six books. I also appreciate the metallic gold lettering on the dark charcoal shirt. I estimated the value based on what the other shirts cost in The Bookish Shop.
Ink and Wonder Enamel Pin - Estimated Value $10.21
This exact pin is not available in the Ink and Wonder shop, so I estimated the value based on other enamel pins available. I love this pin! I am still new to the enamel pin game, but this one is right up my alley. The quote on the pin is something that is said fairly frequently in the Throne of Glass series, and I just know Aelin would wear a pin like this proudly. I love this flower at the bottom with the flames coming from it— I am having a hard time articulating to words why I feel like it matches so perfectly with the quote, but I just feel that it goes with Aelin’s personality perfectly.
Elide + Lorcan Print
This is the only item in the box that is a miss for me. I loved the idea of seeing Elide and Lorcan and what they look like, but this print was just thrown in the box, and you can see the yellow where the print was scratched during shipping. I think if more care was put into the shipping of this print, I would feel like I was holding something that was more special. As it is, I am not really sure what to do with this. While I love the Throne of Glass series, I do not have a shrine dedicated to it, so I do not know what and where to put this print. I am open to suggestions, so let me know below what you do with your prints!
Throne of Glass Exclusive Tumbler by the Bookworm Boutique
I love tumblers, so getting one in a box is always welcome. This one is well made with thick clear plastic, and feels sturdy and secure. That being said, even though I have read the Throne of Glass series five times (give or take) I have no idea whose quote is on this tumbler or what book it is from. I could not find this item or any tumbler at all in the society 6 shop for this brand, so I have no idea what it is valued at. That being said, I would pay between $12-16 for a tumbler of this size and quality.
Manon Candle by Whiskey Diamond Candle Co., 6oz.
This candle is inspired by the witch Manon, who appears later in the series. The scent is described as “crisp air, warm amber, spiced wyvern scales,” and I am loving it. The candle is also “splashed with the blood of her enemies,” and I really appreciate the red drops at the top of the candle to go with that declaration! This candle is that perfect scent to have burning while you cuddle up with your book while it rains outside. I love the attention to detail in the creation and presentation of this candle, and I am glad to see the Manon get some love in this box! Whiskey Diamond Candle Company is no longer selling candle tins, so I wasn't sure what value to give to this exclusive one. That being said, it is definitely high quality, and I would happily pay $8-10 for a candle of this size.
Verdict: I (and Duchess!) really loved this box. The Bookish Box took one of my favorite book series and created tangible items that brought the series to life. I thought the overall curation was very thoughtful, and I really appreciate the attention to detail evident throughout the items. Some of the items could have a calculated value based on similar items, and some I had no idea. All of the items appear to be exclusive to this box, so that definitely adds to the value as well. Overall, I definitely feel like this box is worth the $48.50 cost ($39 box + $9.50 shipping).
The Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, this box is sold out.
Value Breakdown: At $48.50 ($39 box + $9.50 shipping), you are paying approximately $8.08 per item.
