Whiskerbox February 2018 Review
One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else! Let’s see what was in store this month:
There was an information card in the box listing the items. It also had my cats’ names – even Angus!
Please note: Whiskerbox recently changed their information cards a bit. There are some box variations and everything you could possibly receive is listed, though you won’t necessarily get every item on the card. (You will still receive, in the case of the “Meow” version, 4-6 items, including apparel, for a total value of $76 or greater. For what it’s worth, I think the $76 is Canadian; I am pretty sure Whiskerbox is based out of Canada somewhere, although I can’t find an address to confirm this.)
Cat Couture Personalized Apparel – Listed Value $35
About every other month, you’ll receive a cat collar with a bowtie (the bowtie part is removable) in Whiskerbox. The collars are well-made and now I have enough of them for all my cats. The collars are also adjustable and fit both Monkey (who has a thin neck) and Madison (who has a very thick neck) as well as all my kitties in between. The buckles are a little heavy, though, and these are not safety collars – you kind of have to work at the closures. Anyway, my crew all looked stylish in this one. See pictures below.
Friskies Treat-Dispensing Toy – Retail Value $6.99
This must’ve been a bonus item as it wasn’t listed on the information card. My cats do not usually understand treat dispensing toys. Madison can make them work, but then the other cats just steal the treats. Presented with a toy like this, Sneaky or Monkey or Angus will act thoroughly confused. Anyway, you can put some of the Friskies treats (see below) in here and they are the right size to get tipped out of the hole. Please note, this comes in a package with two of the other items that are pictured separately below.
Friskies Party Mix Original (60g) - Buy a 6 oz. bag for $4.99
This must’ve been another bonus item. Anyway, these treats were hugely popular with my cats. They are small, hard treats, in a couple of different shapes. The bag is resealable. I have seen these at Target and I’d definitely consider buying more because most of my cats were fans. This is part of the package with the treat-dispensing toy so a value is not listed separately.
Friskies Pull ‘n Play Toy - Buy an individual package for $3.49 (found here for $2.88)
This is another treat. You can see it in some of the kitty photos below, out of the package. It is a stick about as long as the package here, but you can peel individual strands off the stick (string cheese-style). My cats wouldn’t bite pieces off of this, but if I broke pieces off, they were happy to eat it. This is part of the package with the treat-dispensing toy so a value is not listed separately.
Zuke’s Natural Purrz (3 oz) – Retail Value $3.79
I used to get these all the time in cat subscription boxes. Then the flow dried up. I was sad. Anyway, my cats think these are great. I give them to Sneaky before she gets her asthma inhaler – it’s a pretty good incentive. These are what I would call “semi-moist.” (These seem to be out of stock in a lot of places, for what it’s worth.)
All for Paws Vintage Cat Best Friends – Retail Value $8.52 USD
These are small catnip plushes (the best kind, according to my crew). The cats have their own ways of playing with the toys – Mr. Kitty just snuggles, Monkey rubs his chin on them, Angus tosses them everywhere, etc. Whatever works, I guess. (I found these for sale on a Canadian website so I did a currency conversion.)
Angus bites one of the Pull n’ Play treats.
Angus in the bowtie eating a treat. This was hard to get on him because he wouldn’t sit still.
Madison eats a treat.
Madison is usually good with treat dispensers but you see he is just licking this one.
Madison in the bowtie with a treat. He just had a dental cleaning. Don’t his teeth look nice?
I liked this picture, too.
Monkey was not in the mood for pictures. I did take one of him in the bowtie.
Sneaky tries biting the treat dispenser.
And she tries stealing this treat from Monkey.
Kitty tongue.
Kitty unhappiness at wearing a bowtie.
Mr. Kitty with one of the toys from the box.
And here he is in the bowtie.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $54.30 for the February 2018 Whiskerbox. Take that with a grain of salt as I think some of the prices may be in Canadian dollars (I did the conversion when I could). That is about $9 over the cost of the subscription which is quite reasonable for a cat subscription. My cats are fans of all the treats included, they’ll play with the toys, and they didn’t mind the collar *too* much. Whiskerbox is always a fun one for us to open.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Whiskerbox ships on the 15th of the month so if you sign up before then (assuming they haven’t sold out), you would get March's box as your first box.
