All Around Vegan April 2018 Review
All Around Vegan is a fairly new box for me and I didn’t know what to expect. Let’s see what came in April’s box:
There was a standard information card with more details about the items in the box, including how they fit the categories nutrition, lifestyle, bath/body, and activism.
Mes Amies Soaps Sleepy Bath Soak, 2 oz – Buy a 10 oz bag for $9.97
This is a new brand for me and they seem to have a lot of fun stuff available in their web store. The main ingredients here are Epsom salt and sea salts, but there’s also dried lavender for scent (and visual appearance). I am really liking that this brand does not use artificial colors as I have had some bad reactions to dyes in bath products in the past. I soaked in this after a workout last weekend and I do think it helped with muscle soreness (probably the Epsom salt). I was totally sleepy afterward, too, although soaking in hot water tends to do that regardless of what else is in the water.
Mes Amies Soaps in Coconut + Lime, 4 oz – Retail Value $5.97
This smells wonderful and I did feel clean after using it (I choose bar soap or shower gel as the mood strikes). Although it might not be as visually appealing as soaps with artificial dyes, it is certainly more agreeable to my skin.
Natural Wood Soap Dish – Estimated Value $3.50
This isn’t a branded item so I just looked up some similar items online and estimated a value based on those. It is definitely a welcome inclusion when there is a bar soap – this way, water can drain away instead of collecting around your soap (like if you put it in a travel dish or something), which extends the lifetime of the soap.
It’s just the right size.
Alter Eco Dark Chocolate Coconut Clusters, 3.2 oz. – Retail Value $4.79
OK, here is my favorite part of the box, food! I am familiar with this brand (at least, I see it in Whole Foods) but this product is new to me. The chocolate flavor is quite evident here. I thought these were going to be hard but they actually kind of fall apart in your mouth (in a good way). I was a fan and I definitely want to try the cherry almond butter ones now.
Vega Protein Snack Bar in Chocolate Caramel, 1.6 oz. – Retail Value $1.99 (found on sale here for $1.79)
I also know this brand from subscription boxes but mostly I have received the protein powder. This had a great texture (perhaps because of the way it is made, the grittiness typical of plant proteins was not noticeable, or it felt more like eating a granola bar, anyway).
“Cruelty-Free Fridge” Magnet – Estimated Value $4
I couldn’t find this exact item online but it looks similar to some I found on Zazzle so I’ve estimated the value based on those. (For reference, this is the “lifestyle” item for the month. It is a small item, but I kind of appreciate the curators’ desire to represent all the categories they promise.)
Banner
And here is the “activism” item for the month. (No, Monkey is not going vegan. Cats are obligate carnivores.) This is quite large and actually, the material it is made from seems pretty sturdy (maybe a coated fabric of some kind). I don’t know that this would be weatherproof indefinitely, but it seems like it would hold up for some time if placed outdoors. There are grommets for attachment so it won’t rip or tear.
Part of this subscription is the activism component, so you should occasionally expect items like this. It totally fits with the box’s stated mission. It is custom for the box so I really have no idea how to assign a value.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $22.25 if you include all the items except the banner. This subscription costs $42.45 (with shipping), which leaves about $20.20 over for the banner. I am by no means an expert in the pricing of banners, but considering the size and quality materials it is made from, I can believe it would sell for that much or more (or be even more expensive if you had something like that custom-printed). After a few months, I can definitely say that I have discovered some new brands and products (the food has all been excellent!) and also that the box really tries hard to stay true to its mission.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now, you’ll get the May box (ships May 1) as your first box.
