Anime Bento March 2018 Unboxing and Review
There was no info card in the box to list the products inside. Since this is my first Anime Bento box, I definitely missed having an info card. Especially when I'm new to a subscription, the info card can be a nice introduction to the box experience and the brand.
They did, however, include a free trial offer for HiDive, an anime streaming site.
Japanese Candy
I didn't recognize this candy, nor could I find it online. The package is only about 2 inches long and contains three candies, so it's a smaller sized treat. The candy was super hard out of the wrapper and required a lot of chewing to get it to loosen up. There was some subtle sweetness to the flavor, but it seemed kind of lackluster to me. If you're familiar with this candy, let me know what I should have been tasting! I don't want to assume the flavor is supposed to be big and bold if that's not the intention with this brand.
One Punch Man Bumper Sticker - Estimated Value $4.00
I couldn't find this exact design online, but a similar bumper sticker I found was priced at $4.00. It's got a nice glossy finish to it, plus the bold yellow and red colors would definitely pop on your bumper.
Shoto Academy T-Shirt - Retail Value $20.31
I could only find this t-shirt on Redbubble, but it comes in at just about $20.00. I like the heathered gray fabric and bold, contrasting colors. It's a cute (and comfy) nod to My Hero Academia's leading man. The shirt is a 50-50 blend of cotton and polyester, so it has a smooth, slightly stretchy feel.
Pokemon Pikachu Crew Socks by Bioworld - Retail Value $7.99
These socks are super cute and comfy. I love Pikachu, so there's little Pikachu merch that I won't enjoy. The socks are 98% polyester and 2% spandex, and they're pretty soft and breathable. They aren't too thick, either, so they're comfortable to wear with spring sneakers.
The Verdict: While I didn't outright dislike anything (okay, maybe the candy) in the box, I will say I was a little underwhelmed, given that the box has such a high price tag. The t-shirt was definitely the star of the box (and it is a nice t-shirt), but the other products (the socks, the sticker, and the candy) didn't have that special quality that I look for in subscription box collectibles. It just didn't feel like as unique an assortment as I might've expected. And my expectations were kind of high, being that, with shipping, this box cost me $42.39. I couldn't find exact retail values for everything in the box, but what I did find totaled $32.30, which is a bit less than the cost of the box (and about $10.00 less than the cost of the box after shipping).
