Every month, Birchbox lets subscribers pick between a curated box (all samples revealed) or a single sample choice and be surprised by the rest of the items. This review is of the curated box.

FYI - you can still buy this box for $10. (Or $15 if you aren't a Birchbox subscriber.)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Now on to the items!

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner - 1.2 g Value $12.57

(This is over half the size of the full-size version!)

This is a pitch black, precise liquid eyeliner. Easy to use, and that's good because it is smudge-proof as soon as it sets!

(Swatched in lower photo.)

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Pink  - Mini Value $5?

(No size on the sample, so I'm guessing on the value.)

This little lip + cheek stain goes on almost clear, then provides a pink tint based on your skin's unique chemistry. It's moisturizing, has a satin finish, feels great on my lips, and I like the cotton candy pink tint, too.

Here it is swatched beneath the eyeliner:

Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream SPF 20 - 5 ml Value $3.18

This rich cream is scented, but it is subtle, and it's super hydrating without giving you a greasy finish. (And while this is a smaller sample, the good news is that the tube is completely full!)

Acure Organics Brilliantly Brightening Facial Scrub - 1 oz Value $2.50

(Good to know for swaps - this has an inner foil seal.)

Acure is one of my favorite inexpensive organic beauty brands. (The full-size version of this is only $9.99!)

The formula was gentle and left my skin feeling super smooth. I liked the natural scent, but since my Allure April Beauty Box review, I'm learning that I may be in the minority when it comes to natural scent preferences, so proceed with caution!

Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo - 2.5 oz Value $7.69

This is a great-sized shampoo sample - it lasted me for about a week! The formula is free of parabens and sulfates, and it's designed specifically for coarse or frizzy hair. It's probably not a perfect match for my hair, but it still worked well. (Again, I love the scent of this, too.)

And it came with a bonus conditioner sample:

Davines LOVE Smoothing Conditioner - 12 ml Value $1.44

I would have loved to get a matching size conditioner, but considering this is a bonus 6th item, I'm OK with a one-time-use foil packet. Better than nothing - and again, love the scent!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $32.38 - I think that's great for a $10 beauty box. In general, the curated boxes from Birchbox tend to have a good value, so if that's important to you, I recommend picking those each month! This box didn't have many new discoveries for me, but it's a great box of staples I will use.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this box is available for a one-time purchase! And if you subscribe to Birchbox now, your first box will be the May box. (Tip: Check the image on the sign-up page. The box design pictured is the first month you'll receive.) You can't pick the curated box as your first box, but you'll be able to pick it every month moving forward.

That is the cutest lip color , it could serve as a chap stick and a slight hint of color.

I just signed up for this and didn’t get 2/3 of the products you highlighted for the April 2018 box. My box came with a bunch of brands I’ve never heard of and was definitely not worth $10.

Lol, I’ve gotten the “bonus box” promo months, two boxes of random samples from Birchbox, and still had both boxes together hardly be worth $10. Not a fan of birchbox… I do like their shop though, when there are sales, and the curated boxes are usually good.

I don’t know why I have never tried Birchbox?? I’m always on the fence to just TRY it. I think its because I’m confused about the curated vs regular box…..??

Birchbox lets you pick every month, from three options.

1. Pick the curated box. It is a set selection of samples that have already been chosen, and you know exactly what you’re getting ahead of time.
2. Pick one sample. There is a choice of samples (usually three), and you can pick one, which will then definitely be in your box. The rest of your samples are a surprise.
3. All of your samples are a surprise.
