Bling Bag is a jewelry subscription from India. Each month you’ll receive jewelry customized to your personal style (you fill out a quiz at sign-up). There are several subscription packages available with different quantities of items.

Bling Bag provided this box at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This is a review of the regular Bling Bag, which contains four pieces of jewelry.

Bling Bag April 2018 “Spring Fling” Review

This was my first month reviewing this subscription so I didn’t really know what to expect. For reference, I chose to receive necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. I am assuming all earrings are pierced because I did not specify. I am metal sensitive but if I coat the posts with clear nail polish, I can comfortably wear most earrings:

There was an information card talking about the monthly theme and highlighting some items in the Bling Bag shop.  All packages may be different so you also get individual cards with the items you receive (see below).

There was also a contest entry (color in this card and use social media).

Navy Spring Sling Bag – Retail Value $12.03 USD (799 Rupees)

All the jewelry was packaged inside this shoulder bag. This is big enough for a smartphone (I checked with my husband’s because I don’t have one…) and a wallet and some keys and a lipstick or other small essentials and it comes with a shoulder strap. This is a good size for an evening out as it won’t get too heavy and it closes securely. I think varying colors were possible but this color actually coordinates pretty well with several items in my wardrobe, so I’m happy with it. This seems well made and I like the cutout design.

Arum Statement Bracelet

Arum Statement Bracelet – Retail Value $15.04 USD (999 Rupees)

I make a lot of my own jewelry, but I can’t really make jewelry like this myself, which is why I was interested in this subscription. I have small wrists but this is adjustable (there are a couple of different places on the extender chain where you can attach the clasp) and it did end up fitting pretty well (it is on a somewhat loose setting in the third photo above). Every stone was securely attached and none were missing, and this had some weight to it (it was not too heavy for a bracelet – I just mean that it seems solidly constructed).

I like all the sparkle here!  And the color is neutral enough that it will go with a lot of different outfits. (As an aside, I don’t honestly remember if I said anything about preferred metal tones in the quiz – I will wear pretty much any color of metal.)

Daisy Flower Drop Earrings

Daisy Flower Drop Earrings – Retail Value $10.52 USD (699 Rupees)

These are fun. I like the color of the white and gold against my black hair. They are pierced earrings and I don’t know what the post material is, but I coated the posts in clear nail polish before trying them on. This is another color that will go with a lot of different outfits in my wardrobe, but if you are looking for ideas, the little cards included with each jewelry piece have some styling suggestions.

(For reference, I probably wouldn’t wear quite this much jewelry all at the same time! I just did it here so I could show off the different items from the box.)

Veronica Statement Necklace

Veronica Statement Necklace – Retail Value $18.05 USD (1199 Rupees)

This is adjustable by a couple of inches; I am wearing it on the shortest setting in the picture above. I think this one will work best with crew neck, boat neck, turtleneck, scoop neck, or similar necklines as I can see it falling behind features in other top styles. Of course, you can also change where it hangs by adjusting where you hook the clasp (which is a standard lobster claw).

I don’t have anything like this in my closet, but the colors are great for me as I have been buying a lot more blues lately (although here I wore it with purple, as you can see). I am pretty easy to please with costume-style jewelry and I had fun wearing this to work yesterday. I think it could go either with casual styles or with something a bit fancier.

Canna Statement Earrings

Canna Statement Earrings – Retail Value $15.04 USD (999 Rupees)

These are bold and dangly and involve lots of fun spring colors. I’m not quite sure how to describe the bottom stone but it has an iridescent backing. Once again, I think they look nice offset against my black hair!

These have tons of tiny stones around each of the larger ones but all were securely in place and none were missing. I am not sure what these posts are made from either, but I used the nail polish trick with these as well (you will need to reapply to the posts between wearings). If you don’t have pierced ears or don’t want to receive earrings, however, you can just select other categories in your style quiz.

One more thing before I conclude: I was really worried when this box arrived because it looked like this on the outside (did it get wet?):

And came in one of *these* dreaded baggies from the USPS:

But as you can see from the review above, everything inside was in great shape. The bag itself wasn’t damaged at all and the jewelry was carefully packaged. I think the people at Bling Bag really prepared well for all the ins and outs of international shipping!

Verdict: This subscription costs about $30.70 at the current exchange rate, including shipping. For that cost, you get four pieces of jewelry plus the shoulder bag, which I think is a pretty good deal. The total value works out to around $70.68, which is indeed more than the “double the subscription price” in value that Bling Bag promises. I am happy with all the jewelry selected for me this month because I like bright colors and lots of sparkle and I definitely received that here. (What you receive might be different based on your answers to the quiz.)  I did feel that everything was of better quality than expected considering the price (this is definitely fashion jewelry, as opposed to fine jewelry). Furthermore, everything was packaged securely and no stones were missing.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? They are still offering April boxes on their website as of the time I am writing this review, but your items may vary depending on your choices in the profile quiz.

Value Breakdown: At about $22.57 USD a month + $8.13 USD shipping, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Shoulder bag $5.23
  • Bracelet $6.53
  • Flower Earrings $4.57
  • Necklace $7.84
  • Three-stone earrings $6.53

I would totally wear the last pair of earrings. When I get back to my computer, I’ll check and see if I can find them separately. Thank you for the review.

So happy to hear I’m not the only one without a smartphone!

We were actually going to get me one and then Mr. Kitty needed to have his eye removed, which cost $2200, plus $600 at the emergency vet the day before, and then much follow up veterinary care for an infection in the eye socket, so we had to put it off for budgetary reasons!

I need this sub and they have a mini Bling bag for about $13 plus shipping. You get a bag and 2 pieces a month but for $8 more you get 4, oh what a dilemma 🙂

I have to ride the Indian boxes moment to say: please review Sanaya Set, MSA!! It’s an amazing mission, and I’ve never been happier with receiving a box than I was with their Winter Box. And that’s saying a lot, considering all the cartons rolling in here ever week! 😀

That sounds like a nice one. I haven’t reviewed too many Indian boxes but I always liked the ones I got (I miss Artisan Box from Luxurion World but they aren’t around anymore).

Oh, I’d never heard of that one–just googled it and what I saw looks beautiful. I may have misrepresented Sanaya set a bit, it’s by Indian-American women rather than India directly but really is all about intersectional feminism broadly speaking. You should definitely check it out 🙂

Where does this bag originate? What’s a “rupee?” 🤔
The bracelet is stunning!

Janet, the box is from India and a rupee is the currency there. I hope this helps 💕

Each piece is unique..! Really love this box. I don’t wear jewelry as much as I used but still will keep an eye on this box in case I need a jewelry box refresh.

So far, this sub is the closest to my personal style. I like Your Bijoux Box styles, but they tend to not be silver colored metal. I really only want silver, so I like that there is a way to personalize this.
And Ragan, I share the metal sensitivity issue. I used to paint my belt buckle quite often. Now, leggings and athleisure have saved me from usually even wearing a belt. I stopped wearing watches because I didn’t want to paint the backs of my nicer watches. It’s a wonderful trick though.

I only seem to have the problem with earrings. I wear a lot of bracelets and necklaces without issue. When I make earrings for myself, I use niobium wires, but if I want to wear a style I couldn’t make on my own, I have to go with what’s available. Luckily I have an excess of clear nail polish.

I miss wearing watches but I kill them. Like, they stop working and even replacing the battery doesn’t help. So I just use my Fitbit to check the time (I have one of the clip ones).

I wonder if you only have issues with earrings because they are going actually through your skin ? Allergies can be different if it’s just touching the skin or if it’s in the bloodstream. I would think earrings would be somewhere in the middle of those two. The clear nail polish was definitely a life changer for me so I could feel mostly “normal”.
With me, I honestly can’t really remember when my issues started because things are a little blurry. I had a low grade fever for over a year due to metal poisoning from the titanium alloy rod in my tibia. It had been in over 10 years when I really started having issues. I had to not talk about allergies/poisoning to get it out. There is a thing called metal induced allergies, when the metal starts to enter the bloodstream. And I try to spread awareness about how these metal implants a lot of people have can cause very bizarre seemingly unrelated issues. Might be TMI, but I also had a 24/7 uterine bleeding because of the metal!

I loved the comment about the dreaded “we care” bags from usps. I had half a letter return to me one time in one of those bags

I always appreciate a jewelry box that let’s me choose not to receive earrings. This one is definitely on my radar now.

Ragan

Yeah, you just have to pick two of the four categories (bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and rings). I didn’t get rings because I have really small hands and fingers.

I would love this subscription. A bag and all that bling-yes please! The last pair of earrings are really my style.
