Bonding Bees March 2018 Review
The date guide includes the format/instructions for your date night! This month was themed around a night in Italy, complete with Pizza, learning Italian, and art.
Acrylic Paint Set – Retail Value $7.63
Two 6x8 Canvases – Buy a 12 pack for $12.13
Two Paint Brushes – Buy a 10-pack for $5.29
Bonding Bees sent everything you need for a couple’s painting activity! I love this kind of thing – I really enjoy it, even if I’m not super good at painting, but it helps me get some creative flow. I’ve seen this activity in date boxes before and I think it’s a good one. The two small brushes were hard to paint an entire canvas with, though – I wish they had included one or two other sizes too. But we made it work! It wasn’t a huge deal.
There were 6 colors of acrylic paint included, and I was happy with their performance.
Oven Mitt – Estimated Value $4.99
An oven mitt is definitely handy (get it?). This one is pretty basic, and one side is silver and the other is red. The red side has a little custom printing of a love quote and Bonding Bees’ names. Cute, and useful.
Make Room for Love Pizza Cutter – Retail Value $1.29
The other main activity is making pizza together! Which I really love. I mean, I love cooking together, but I also love pizza, so it’s just a win all around. I really appreciate that they sent a pizza cutter! It may not be super high quality but I don’t already have one! I like that I get to keep these two items in my kitchen even after using them for this box.
Weisenberger Pizza Crust Mix, 6.5 oz – Buy a 12-pack for $24.78
I’ve never used a pizza crust mix and I have to say that I kind of love it – you just add some water, stir, and let rise for 5 minutes before shaping. So easy! And it tasted good, too.
Pastorelli Pizza Sauce, 8 oz – Buy a 12-pack for $22.32
This sauce is actually amazing. The ratings on Amazon show that it’s not just me. This sauce isn’t too sweet but still has great flavor. It’s pretty thick, kind of like a paste, but it’d be easy enough to thin out a little, but I didn’t see any problem with it the way it was.
Pizza Topping Packets
For the parmesan, garlic, red pepper, and Italian spice, they sent them in seasoning packets.
Here’s our pizza! This was really fun and really yummy. It stayed in the heart shape that Luke made well during baking. Luke agreed that it tasted really good, but said I skimped on the pepperoni, haha.
They also included a little Italian Playing card game. This was fun, too. Luke is obsessed with any kind of game so this was right up his alley to figure out with me. The instructions were in the date guide and they weren’t too hard to figure out, and we enjoyed a couple rounds over coffee after our pizza.
Our paintings! Well, kind of my paintings. Luke doesn’t enjoy it as much so we compromised by having me pick a romantic phrase and he picked one, then I painted both while he found couples’ conversation questions to talk about white I painted. We may not have both been painting but we were both talking and had a good time connecting. My favorite turned out to be the one he picked, “together is my favorite place to be.”
The Verdict: I think date boxes are such a fun idea! We really enjoyed the pizza, painting, and game in this box. They weren’t complicated activities, everything was pretty nice quality, and it was fun to have an at-home date night without having to hire a babysitter.
This kind of box is really subjective and can be hard to state a real value on because it may be different for everyone. It’s definitely about the subjective gain from the experience and not about what you tangibly get for your money. We had a fun time, I love that it included dinner, but I’m not sure it felt quite like a $40 date to us. However, it did get us doing things we normally wouldn’t (aka we did things other than takeout & Netflix) and we didn’t have to find or pay a babysitter. We’re satisfied all in all.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, boxes for each month ship the first and second week of that month. If you ordered today, you’d get the May box. (Their website says if you order a box in the 2nd week of a month, they’ll try to get you that month’s box as long as supplies last but they can’t guarantee.)
Coupon - Use code MSA50 to save 50% off your first box or use MSA12 to save $12 off your 3 or 6-month subscription!
