California Found March 2018 Review

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative.

Classic Bun Pin by CA Makes

Classic Bun Pin by CA Makes - Retail Value $40

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with this little bun pin! I wear my hair in a bun fully 50% of the time, and this brass pin is exquisite! I did a quick bun in the photo above, sorry it is messy, but I have so much hair you can barely see the pin! But you can see that it works well, and the color is a nice contrast to my hair color. When I get more time I will craft it more carefully so more of the pin can be seen! These pins come in a variety of metals and are handcrafted by Chelsea Aiello of CA Makes in Santa Barbara. I can't believe she hand forges and sands each pin! You can really tell when you look closely at the craftsmanship.

Neni's Soap Shop Moonlight Pomegranate Bath Bomb - Retail Value $6

Neni's Soap Shop Oatmeal Milk & Honey Bath Bomb - Retail Value $5.50

These bombs made the package smell amazing even before I opened it! I love when that happens! I used the pomegranate one the other night in a soak and it smelled so amazing, plus it made my skin feel softer. And, the oatmeal bomb has that deep honey fragrance, almost like a perfume. These were handcrafted in Hanford, California by Marleny Angulo, an artisan who started her bath and body line in an effort to keep harmful chemicals out of her family's home.

Pecan Butter Crunch (4 oz.)

P.O.P. Candy Pecan Butter Crunch (4 oz.) - Retail Value $11

P.O.P. Candy Rosemary Almond Butter Crunch (4 oz.) - Retail Value $11

This is easily the best brittle I have ever had in my life. It changed my whole view of nut brittle. It tastes so amazing! My kids tore up the pecan flavor, and I literally had to have my husband take the rosemary almond flavor away from me. I could not stop eating it! The rosemary was sublime. I included the ingredients lists in my pictures to show that although there is, of course, lots of sugar involved, the ingredients are free of corn syrup and chemicals. This brittle is made in small batches in Santa Monica, California.

Four Greeting Card Set by Misstate Maker

Four Greeting Card Set by Misstate Maker - Retail Value $16

I can never have enough blank note cards, and these are really pretty! I love the vibrancy of the watercolor effect. Rachel Sussman of San Diego is the artist behind Misstate Maker, and she also makes prints and other watercolored artworks.

Dani Adjustable Ring by Robyn Rhodes

Dani Adjustable Ring by Robyn Rhodes - Retail Value $25

This ring is just stunning! I love it! It's hand-hammered brass with a 14k gold finish. I am so pleased that it fits! Hooray for adjustable rings! Robyn Rhodes is actually a company based in Los Angeles that is named after its founder. It is a collection of artisans who create these beautiful pieces!

The Verdict: California Found has become one of my favorite subscription boxes! I loved everything I received this month, and I'm not exaggerating whatsoever. The brittle and bath bombs were absolute delights for the senses! The ring and bun pin are gorgeous accessories! And the cards are so pretty! I also cannot help but notice the value of everything adds up to $114.50, which is way more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49!!!

This box would have been an ok one for me; I would not have used the hair pin or bath bombs, but after looking at their other boxes and liking the jewelry they send, I decided to sign up for April.

This is the best box with such unique items. I also love the fact that it comes via priority shipping and on time, unlike so many other boxes that promise but do not deliver.

Hi Sunshine! We try really hard to make the entire experience a great one. Thanks for noticing!!

A lovely box, and while I understand that artisanal work is more expensive, I just can’t justify $50 on a mystery bundle that I might or might not like.

This was my first box and I am absolutely blown away. I’m sending the postcards to some friends who relocated from Texas to California a couple of years ago and I know they’ll get used. The bun pin is the only thing I can’t use yet, as I’m growing my hair out and it isn’t long enough for a bun.

Those bath bombs smell so good. I just want to wrap up in their scents. Easily the best smelling ones I’ve come across.

The pecan brittle is insane! I’ve never had brittle that good before.

This is my favorite subscription ever.

I’ve been watching this sub, I’ve mostly liked what I’ve seen. But, this month would have been a miss for me. I have short hair, no bathtub, have no use for note cards (especially ones with CA on them) and I only wear silver colored metal. That would have been some hella expensive chocolate.

Beth

Haha! Sorry this one was a miss for you. We love that it includes great keeps and beautiful thoughtful gifts. Maybe April will be a better fit …hint …silver. 🧡

One of the best boxes. Always a beautiful mix.

This seems like such a lovely box, but I have to question the usefulness of California cards for someone who isn’t located there.

Beth

Hi Shana, Our subscribers are typically in, from, or in love with California, but Misstatemaker has designs from all 50 and more! Check her out!

Loved my box but agreed about the cards. I also have short hair so the hair pin was a miss for me

Beth

Long haired friend that would love such a beautiful handcrafted gift?? 🧡🧡

Zo

I agree with everything you wrote in your review. The hair pin is so beautiful. I normally just use hair sticks or shorter chopsticks to pin up my hair but this pin is much fancier.
That butter crunch…TDF!!!
I am always surprised at the value in these boxes. Usually artisan boxes aren’t usually more than 2X what we pay. And everything is such high quality. I am taking a break from HR and sticking with CF for a while.
A big plus for me is the priority shipping. It’s great to be on the opposite coast and receive a box 2 days after shipping.
