January 2018 'Aim to Misbehave' Firefly Cargo Crate Review

January's crate featured the Malcolm Reynolds figure we've all been waiting for along with a towel, patch, pin, and buildable Serenity ship.

You'll get a copy of The Signal, as always, except this month's seems like it has much less content than past issues. Either way, it still has the most important info - your haul!

Serenity Valley Veteran Pin - Value $5?

This month's pin is a little less giant and articulate than past pins - but still cool none the less. The show starts with talk about the recently passed war - and this pin is a call back to just that.

Serenity Beach Towel - Value $20?

Instead of a wearable item this month, they've tossed in a Serenity themed beach towel. As an East Coast dweller, it was a bit odd to get a beach towel in January - but maybe that's just me.

While the backside felt like a nice and absorbent terrycloth material, the front was oddly slick feeling - maybe that's better for beach lounging? Overall, the towel felt a bit small at 55x28 inches, but the graphic does really pop.

Little Damn Heroes – Malcolm Reynolds Figure – Value $20-25

Well, this is the one I've been waiting for since the first delivery of Cargo Crate - it's Mal!

This figure line is 5 inches tall and very nicely detailed and painted. I think this is one of Loot Crate's best exclusive lines in terms of quality and accuracy.

This is the final figure in the first series of Mini Masters - the second series will kick off soon, and it looks like it will include some of the same characters with variant outfits and stances.

Firefly Independents Patch - Value $10?

The box also includes a replica patch created using the original artwork.

It's an iron-on patch, so it'll go on a jacket, backpack, jeans - whatever you'd like - how do you use these?

Serenity Q-Craft - Value $15-20?

This is an exclusive item to the box - it's a cardboard build-kit for the Serenity ship!

I've done quite a few of these recently. They can typically take from 30-45 minutes depending on how tiny and intricate they get. Overall, the directions are very easy to follow.

Bellerophon Wave Card - Value $5?

This is the second shipment in a row where you'll get an exclusive postcard to mail out.

Finally, the deliveries usually arrive with a travel sticker to collect with every theme.

Verdict: Without the typical t-shirt and the towel being a little less usful for me, this definitely isn't a favorite of mine. I do really love that we finally have the Mal figure and have completed the Series 1 line - it's just the collector in me.

Again, and I feel like a broken record here, you'll have to be wary of Loot Crate's shipping isues if you're planning on getting the crates by a certain date!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. You'll find the current theme on their landing page.

I was suppose to get my crate August and got it the first week of Feb. Inside there were collectables but only two stickers had anything to do with Firefly. I don’t collect a bunch of stuff..I paid for SERENITY stuff. All that waiting…for 2 stickers. 😞

Yeah, I think my patch had a little note about it being a bonus item because of the late shipping. Seems kind of a throwaway item, like they looked around for some random Firefly stuff they had left over from some other crate. I’ve been getting various Loot Crate subscriptions for a couple of years now and I have like three of these patches.

I have to say that for me it has gone too downhill especially with the shipping delays. I stuck it out to complete my set of figures with Mal but have cancelled. The cost with the delays just no longer is justifiable to me to get the new set of figures.

I agree. I am sticking it out for the Kaylee because I didn’t find out about the box until it was too late to get the first series one (though I like that one sooo much and prefer it to the new Kaylee) and Kaylee is one of my favorites. After that, it’s just not worth it for the lackluster items in the boxes, especially considering I have had two of my t-shirts unravel in the wash after about three washes.

I just got the Kal-Elle Firefly themed box and I was way more excited about that then I’ve been for these boxes for the last year (it was AWESOME).

The patch is the “sorry for late shipping” item. That beach towel is so cheap-feeling that I worry about it falling apart in the wash. This is what we are paying a higher monthly fee for?
Pretty disappointed.

And, not surprisingly, nothing communicated yet about the March box.

I just got what I assume is the March box and it’s a big joke. I was missing two of the items, but it wouldn’t have been *anywhere* near worth the price even with the items I was missing. I wasn’t even disappointed because I have just come to expect it and they didn’t even meet my very low expectations with this one. In my opinion, they really don’t care about their subscribers at all and are just trying to eek as much money out of us as they can get away with.

Wasn’t that patch already in a core crate a few years ago?

I am interested in the craft and pin if anyone wants to swap.

That could be the case and would make sense why it’s not listed in the booklet. Probably a “sorry for late shipping” item
