Limited Edition Ellebox Review
This box included some fun facts about International Women’s Day.
Om Organics Charcoal + Matcha Face Mask, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $20.20 USD ($26 CAD)
Since my skin is very oily and acne prone, me and charcoal skincare products are old friends. I am always down to try a new face mask, especially since my worst breakouts come during the time of the month. This mask was incredibly comfortable to wear because once I applied it I could not really feel it on my face. After the 20 minutes, the mask hadn't dried at all so my face didn't feel tight, and it was easy to wash off with a wet washcloth. When I woke up the next day, my hormonal acne on my chin was significantly reduced in size and was no longer throbbing. This stuff is good, yo!
Midnight Paloma Bath + Body Trio, 3 50 g jars - Value $23.24 USD ($30 CAD)
According to the description of this box, I was supposed to receive a body scrub from Simply Soak, but when I opened the box I found this trio of glass jars instead. I am not mad about it because yay— more charcoal goodies. However, it would have been nice for ElleBox to let me know about the product switch—especially since this trio is a few dollars less in value compared to the original item. That being said, I am excited to use the bath soak and the light, yet slightly herbal scents of the lotion and body wash are a nice change from what I usually use. One thing of note: This set is $30 CAD on the Midnight Paloma website, but on the ElleBox website it is $30 in USD.
Modern Hippie Whipped Face Butter, 4 oz - Estimated Value $20
This is a thick, yet light face butter that looks like frosting when you open it and smells like it could be a high-end frosting from a fancy bakery thanks to the lavender and rose. Alas, this is not edible, but it made for an awesome moisturizer after I took off the charcoal mask. It is too heavy for my skin to use during the day, but makes for a great nighttime moisturizer or salve after applying strong skin care products. The smell is delightful but light, and though I will have to use this sparingly due to my oily skin I will be hanging on to this jar of goodness.
Easy Tiger Skinny Dip Bath Salts, 4 oz - Retail Value $15
If you couldn't tell from my other reviews, I LOVE baths and I always enjoy receiving products that I can use when I sink into the tub. The pink grapefruit and lime scent of these essential oils is delightful and refreshing. The large size of the individual salt corns (fun fact: corned beef is called such because of the large corns of salt used in the old school pickling process) really makes this bath salt luxurious compared to other bath salts I have used.
Bellapierre Precious Diamonds Hydra-Surge Rich Body Butter, 8.83 oz - Retail Value $25
I have seen Bellapierre in many a subscription box, but only their makeup products— never skincare. While the rest of the items in this box truly felt special, this falls a little flat for me. This body butter is definitely more of a lotion-consistency in my mind, and it easily absorbed into my skin without leaving my skin greasy. To my nose, it is an unscented lotion, and apparently, it is ~infused with diamonds~. Apparently, the diamond powder provides gentle exfoliation. If you go to the Bellapierre website this exact lotion in this same size is available for purchase for $80! That is insane to me, and I am glad the ElleBox website has it available for sale for $25 instead of $80, but honestly, even that price feels high.
The Verdict: Overall I am happy with this box. When I am on my period all I want to do is take baths and do some extra self-care, so everything in this box helps me achieve that. I like that four of the five products in the box came in glass jars because it really upped the elegance factor for me. The few pricing discrepancies are a bit confusing (the Bellapierre being way lower in price compared to the company website, the Midnight Paloma trio being higher in price), but overall I think this is a solid value for the price.
