LitJoy Crate "Unplugged" Picture Book Review
An info card was included to help you and your little reader navigate everything inside the box. I always find this to be super helpful!
Unplugged By Steve Antony - Retail Value $12.76
This book is something that we can all learn from, no matter what age. The inspiration for this book came to the author one day when he wanted to just unplug his phone and step away from social media. The main character in the book, Blip, loves being plugged into his computer, but the first few pages show a black and white world with little happening. One day he gets unplugged and stumbles on his cord into the outside where suddenly the book comes to life with color! The book follows Blip on his new adventures where he makes so many friends. He realizes that sometimes, to really see the world in all of its color and beauty, we have to unplug. A great lesson and a super fun book!
Adventure 1001 Stickers - Retail Value $9.99
This super-sized book is filled with so many sticker pages along with fun activity pages. My son is obsessed with stickers so I always love adding books like this to our art bin. The stickers are all of silly characters and animals that match so well on the activity pages. One thing to note, the stickers seem to not really stick all that well.
Ceramic Robot Piggy Bank - Buy 12 for $19.99
This piggy bank is so cute! It is ceramic so your little one can paint it or leave it plan if they wish. Since it is ceramic, it is on the fragile side so I decided to put this in my son's room where he can't reach it just yet. We are going to paint it at a later date when I can trust that he won't throw it. He does love when I bring it down for him to put coins in it!
Jump Rope - Estimated Value $5.00
A fun activity that you can do outside like we learned in Unplugged, is to jump rope. I don't think I have owned a jump rope since I was a little girl so I was really excited to receive this! I am a bit rusty though! My son is still a little young to teach to jump rope, but I am going to keep this for when he is ready, he will love it!
White Recorder - Retail Value $5.99
I remember getting my recorder in elementary school, it was such a big deal and really made you feel so grown-up! I was really excited to see this in the box, but I honestly thought my son wouldn't be able to make it work. I was wrong! He grabbed it right away and started playing a little tune of his own. He thought it was the best and continued to march around the house blowing into it. It will be fun to start showing him how to play a real tune on it once he gets a bit older.
Sidewalk Chalk, Set of 5 - Buy a set of 20 for $7.99
We can never have enough sidewalk chalk in my house! My son always seems to break the pieces or leave them out in the rain at night. We also just painted a huge chalkboard wall in our playroom for him so this went right into his basket there to use since it is still a bit cold and wet outside. He loves picking his chalk color and making drawings for me.
American Meadows Daisy Seeds - Retail Value $0.75
Another beautiful thing that we don't always notice in our digital world are flowers. I love that this month's box came with a flower seed packet to match the book. I have to admit that I do not have a green thumb, but I think this will be a fun activity to plant these daisies with my son and see how they do.
OTC Farms Gummy Peas & Carrots - Buy a pack of 18 for $6.99
OMG, these candies are so cute! My son loves eating real peas and carrots so he got a big kick that these were gummies. The candies weren't super sweet, but they were really fun and silly to eat!
Activity Pages
In each box, you will receive a set of activity pages that relate to the book and overall theme. This is another item that I look forward to because it is activities that are always so much fun and an easy way to keep my son's attention as he relates each project back to the book we just read. The pages are super thick and sturdy and the activities are always so much fun!
Verdict: LitJoy Crate is always so much fun to receive! My son loves to read and is starting to really engage with his books in a big way. LitJoy Crate allows me to bring new books to his bookshelf, and they always send silly books with a great message. I estimated a retail value of $41.55, which is slightly above the cost of the box. I thought this box was a great overall value because there were fewer paper products and more items that my son can really engage with. The sticker book was awesome, but I would have to say that the piggy bank and chalk were our favorites!
