Each month, you'll receive 4-8 awesomely irreverent items handmade by artists and small businesses. The women behind Smartass & Sass might not take themselves too seriously, but they are serious about supporting the creatives behind the items in their box and paying a fair price for their quality goods. Smartass & Sass also offers a $15.95 Shirt-only Box and $49.95 Big Box.
This is a review of the $34.95 a month box.

Smartass & Sass March 2018 Review
Smartass & Sass continued with a new format and sent a full booklet out this month to include more info about all of the makers, with photos. The cover lets you know that this month's theme is "That's My Jam" in which all of the items are related to 90s song lyrics.
I Don't Want No Scrubs Dishcloth - Retail Value $7.00
This 100% natural dishcloth made from 70% wood cellulose and 30% cotton will warn all the scrubs that wander into your home to steer clear using the lyric from the late '90s TLC song "No Scrubs". The cloth comes dry and slightly stiff but as soon as you douse it with water it becomes pliable enough to scrub all those dirty dishes you have laying in your sink. The words "I don't want no scrubs" is printed on the front as a negative against a dark teal green. The back even has little scrubbies to get that caked-on crust off.
I Am Unable to Quit as I am Currently Too Legit Koozie - Listed Retail Value $5.00
Warm weather is struggling to find us here in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, but once it hits, I will be drinking on my porch like a good American and this keeping my bevvie cold. This teal and white Koozie breaks down lyrics from MC Hammer's 1991 hit "2 Legit 2 Quit" as if a person is speaking them by saying "I am unable to quit as I am currently too legit" on both sides. The bottom of the Koozie (which conveniently folds flat when not in use) also has the hashtag #hammertime. Do you all remember the hand signals to this song??
I Like the Way You Work It Notepad - Listed Retail Value $7.00
Okay- so the top of this salmon pink notepad reads "I like the way you work it" which I immediately recognize from the 1996 song "No Diggity" by Blackstreet which I was personally obsessed with when I was 16 (even though I was already heavily into punk by then). It's undeniably catchy! I vividly recall staying up late to see them perform on Soul Train so I could record it on my Mom's VCR. The bottom of this notepad reads "don't stop get it get it" which I don't recall being from No Diggity, but reminds me of the Ice Cube song "You Can Do It" even though I think this is a pretty often used lyric. I'm just gonna guess this is a little mashup unless someone can point me in the right direction!
Tryin' To Catch Me Writing Dirty Pencil and Sharpener - Listed Retail Value $1.50
As famous as the song "Ridin'" is, I have to admit that the name of the artist didn't ring a bell for me. I don't think Chamillionaire has had as much commercial success since, but it looks like it's been a while since he released anything at all. This is a later song compared to the others with its 2005 release, but this pencil makes it punny by switching it up to say "Tryin' to catch me writing dirty" in gold on a blue pencil. Get it?? Comes with a sharpener too, just in case you needed one.
Can't Touch This Wooden Cube Blossom Kit - Listed Retail Value $8.00
I'm not exactly sure what these MC Hammer lyrics have to do with plants, but this 3" square wooden planter comes with a seed packet, peat pellet, and protective plant liner so you can grow your very own Money/Jade plant. The words "Can't Touch This" are emblazoned on one side of the planter, perhaps warning any visitors to keep their hands off your money (plant).
Whip It Real Good Wooden Spoon - Retail Value $8.00
I'm gonna guess this wood burnt spoon is a nod to the song "Push It" by Salt-N-Pepa in which they sing "P-push it REAL GOOD!" in the classic 1986 jam unless it's referring to the song "Whip It" by Devo. Perhaps another mash up here? The spoon is 10" long and 100% food safe, so you can use it to whip up whatever you'd like in the kitchen while you inadvertently get Salt-N-Pepa stuck in your head the rest of the day.
I'll Tell You What I Want What I Really Really Want Greeting Card - Listed Retail Value $4.00
Sliding back into the 90s, this watercolor card is another item designed by Smartass and Sass and takes us to 1996 UK with the lyrics "I'll Tell You What I Want What I Really Really Want" from the Spicegirls song "Wannabe". The envelope matches and it's blank on the inside so you can explain what it takes to be your lover.
Y'all Gonna Make Me Lose My Mind (up in here, up in here) Mug - Retail Value $16.00
When I showed this to a friend, she replied "Do you think DMX ever thought he'd see his lyrics in a Pinterest font on a mug?" and it made me wonder the same thing. Well, dreams come true DMX, it's happened! If you love the song "Party Up (Up In Here)" but have to tone down your love of early 2000s hip-hop at the office, this is perfect for you! The mug itself is friggin HUGE which is pretty great because I'll need copious amounts of coffee to make it out to the next throwback night to go wild to this song.
Bonus: 80s & 90s Stickers
The bonus item this month is chock full of more song references in brightly colored hues. Can you guess them all?
Verdict: If you grew up in the 80s & 90s and inched towards adulthood in the early aughts like me, you'll probably catch all of the references from this month's "That's My Jam" box. Smartass and Sass included eight items plus bonus stickers to get you reminiscing about parties gone by, but I have to say that this was a pretty big helping of it. I get that there was a clear theme and they stuck to it, but all of the puns and winks started feeling a bit much by the end. Going by the listed values and the values I could find online, I got $56.50 worth of goods for $41.90, though a couple of items (like the $7.00 notepad) I'm a bit iffy on.
