OREO Cookie Club April 2018 Review

Love it or hate it, we just couldn't help ourselves, we HAD to renew our three-month subscription to the OREO Cookie Club to see what the future held. How low can the value go??

Free OREO chocolate candy bar coupon other side of Free OREO chocolate candy bar coupon

Coupon for a Free OREO Chocolate Candy Bar, 1.44 oz - Retail Value: Up to $0.99 (but like, not really)

First things first, they've sent another coupon this month. Since coupons don't really have a value, I'm considering this a bonus and won't count it towards the overall value of the box. Just send us the candy bar, ok? Don't make me leave my house.

Coconut OREO Thins package opened Coconut OREO Thins package Coconut OREO Thins on a plate

Oreo Thins Coconut Crème, 10.1 oz. - Retail Value $2.98

Straight up? I love these. I didn't know they existed and as I ate one I was pleasantly surprised that they were very subtle in coconut flavor and I SWORE they tasted like natural flavoring. Of course, I was wrong, it's all artificial, but boy they had me fooled. So good. Will probably purchase more of this sometime in the future, because I can buy them ANYWHERE. I also like that they're thins, so I feel slightly less gluttonous (ps. I don't actually care).

Lemon OREO package opened Lemon OREO package Lemon OREOs on a plate

Oreo Cookies in Lemon Crème, 15.25 oz. - Retail Value $2.98

I don't like these as much as the coconut ones, but they are still pretty decent. I don't love lemon cookies, especially when it's a lemon creme, but at least they put them with the blonde vanilla cookies and not the chocolate cookies. I don't think I could have handled that. They're also quite sugary, which I guess you can expect from an OREO. Again, you can find these at pretty much any store. They are not exclusive to the box.

16 oz. OREO Reusable Plastic Cup with Straw

So, the swag... this month it's a reusable plastic cup that you'd use for cold drinks. The pattern is made of classic chocolate OREOs raining down on an otherwise clear cup, with a blue straw. It all comes apart like you'd assume, so you can easily clean. It's BPA free, but it's not microwave-safe and you have to handwash it. This is basically the size of a Starbucks iced grande drink. Shrug. These come a dime a dozen in subscription boxes and I have so many already.

OREO recipe card Directions for OREO Lemon-Coconut Smoothie, with drink umbrellas

They always include a recipe that uses one or more of the included flavors. This time they've created a lemon-coconut smoothie and have tossed in five drink umbrellas to spruce it up, should you decide to make this drink. I'm going to pass on this one for now.

Is it though?

Verdict: This month's OREO Cookie Club Subscription Box presented us with two packages of OREOs and a reusable cup. The cost is $19.99 per box, but you have to purchase a minimum of a 3-month subscription for $59.97. I'm digging the cookies, but they have always been flavors I can buy at my local grocery store, so it doesn't feel special. The only item exclusive to the box (unless you count the recipe 🙄) is the "swag" aka the reusable cup this time. Unless you are a true OREO fanatic who needs to collect every sandwich cookie promo item, this box really falls flat. Since each package of cookies retails for  $2.98, it's like you're paying $14.03 for the cup. Is it worth it to you?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? After digging around the questions on the Amazon order page, it looks like you have to order the month before what would be your first delivery. If that's the case, you'd receive the May box if you order today.

Value Breakdown: At $19.99 for this box, you're paying approximately $6.66 per item. 😟

Yeah. I love Oreos but this box is horrible. I’d be down for a Cheeto box. Different flavors of Cheetos and maybe a vinyl or stuffed Chester Cheetah.

I’ve banned NABISCO products from my life because of this horrid money grab. The company could make this travesty of a cookie show a charitable box.. 50% of sales go to a worthwhile charity or charities in the US.

But nooo, they show their corporate greed and hubris with a box that should be about $10.00 at the local grocery store.
RME! I hate this box, ROFLOL.

Thanks for an honest review. This is probably the worse subscription box out there. It has poor value and poor content. I have yet to see exclusive oreo flavors. Thank you for suffering through the review.

Yippy!! Another Oreo box to make fun of. I really enjoyed the review!! 😂😂

The exclusive, hand drawn, limited edition oreo paper umbrellas have a MSRP of $39.98 each……. 😉

Oh heck I didn’t even notice the umbrellas had Oreos until you pointed that out. Well, sure, that makes all the difference y’all!

I believe the purpose of these Oreo cookie reviews is to make us feel less guilty about spending $10 or $20 on makeup boxes.

Never stop reviewing this dumpster fire of a sub box, I clapped with glee when I saw the new one up! This thing is solid gold internet clickbait!

Reply ButtonReply

Stef

Exactly how I feel!! This sub and the comments just make me laugh, and I hope as long as this train wreck of a box is around it gets reviewed 😂😂

StephKlos

Me too! It’s my favorite box review each month.

Marne,
You overlooked the most valuable item in the box the rare royal blue sizzle!

Legit LOL, Anna!

OMG – they could do SOOO much better than this! What about some samples?! What about some cool treats? There are soooo many varieties of Oreo products these days, that throwing in two cookie packages and a cup is completely insulting. That cup is boring, too.

Subscription boxes are supposed to generate buzz, offer value and get you excited about the product! This box makes me want to buy Oreo products less than I ever did before.

Thanks for reviewing anyway – it’s good to compare what’s out there, good and bad.

“Just send us the candy bar, ok? Don’t make me leave my house.” YYYYEEEESSSSSS. I’m an avid hater of coupons in sub boxes for this reason exactly. I bought your box to have you ship me food so I don’t have to leave the house, now you want me to leave the house? No…do your job please. 😉

I’m not an Oreo fan so I almost skipped this review. Glad I didn’t as it made me laugh!
Thx Marne.

I thought last month was the end of their sub, and they weren’t going to renew. Waste of money

This box is silly .Nice to see an honest if not magnanimous review. That are they offering? Two for 5 bucks cookies and a dollar store cup. Stop it

Glad to see an such an honest review. Has anyone contacted Oreo to ask what’s up with this weak subscription?

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

I’d be curious to know how many people subscribe to this box.

Reply ButtonReply

katie

There are 43 reviews on Amazon. Eleven were 5 star. I think most if not all of those were “gifts”. While Personally I would never pay that much money for something I could get at the supermarket I can see why people do. The thing I absolutely can not fathom is “renting” clothes. I’d subscribe to Oreo’s before I’d do that.

Reply ButtonReply

ks

I love renting clothes for special events if I know I won’t wear something more than once. I also rented normal clothes when I was trying to figure out what works for my body as I was buying a lot of junk that didn’t work for me. It made a lot of sense financially and environmentally.

Tat

Would someone explain to Nabisco that this really shouldn’t be a thing?

Reply ButtonReply

Aarjullor

I’d never purchase this but I love reading the reviews on it! Super funny Marne! This sub is ridiculous and I can’t believe it’s still a thing. The little umbrellas are cute, that’s all I got.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Maybe have less of an Oreo hater write the review?

Reply ButtonReply

Sammee

The review actually reviews the Oreos themselves pretty fairly, but the ridiculous value of this box is rightly called out. That has nothing to do with supposedly hating Oreos, which I didn’t get the feeling that Marne does. I will say one thing in defense of the coupon though: it looks like the candy bar is covered in chocolate, and while some areas are still trying to shake winter, other areas have indeed moved on to spring. We’ve already hit the 80s several times in Texas (high 80s later this week), and as many box subscribers have noted in comments for years, it sucks when a company sends out a meltable item like candy or chocolate and it arrives in liquid form. So sending out a coupon for a free bar is a good way to prevent that, and I think it’d be easy enough to pick up the next time someone is out doing their regular grocery shopping.

Reply ButtonReply

LB

In theory, yes, it should be easy. But thanks to my sub box addiction (Home Chef, Degustabox, Snack Crate, etc) I only “have” to go grocery shopping about once every 3 months. Most coupons expire by the time I go. Then, on top of that, you add on my general forgetfulness and there is no way in heck I’m remembering I have the coupon, to put it in my purse before I go shopping and then to actually take it out and hand it to the cashier. Maybe it’s just me, though. LOL. I seriously have Target gift cards in my wallet from Christmas that I cannot remember to use…and I go to Target more often that the grocery store….

Amber

Would you seriously be happy paying $20 for this? If you actually read the review, you know Marne likes Oreos, but the value of this box just isn’t there. All of the oreos they’ve received can be found in stores, so there’s no point in getting a box where you don’t even get to pick out your flavors.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn S

She obviously loves the cookies, she is just being honest about the value. The cookies aren’t even exclusive to the box and the swag is dollar store junk. So you are basically paying $19.99 for 2 bags of $3 cookies….. do the math.

Reply ButtonReply

LB

She said she liked both of the cookie flavors (even said she’d go out and repurchase the coconut). Doesn’t sound like she’s an Oreo hater to me at all. Sounds like she’s a hater of sub boxes with no value. In other words, an honest and impartial reviewer which is great for the site and the readers. The humor is a bonus.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

The value just isn’t there.

Reply ButtonReply

Ks

What? How is not wanting to pay $20 for $4 worth of oreos considered hate? If you love oreos, you want more of them…not less.

Reply ButtonReply

Krista

I find this sub to be absolutely ludicrous and I’m so glad you review it for my enjoyment 🙂
