Papirmass (pronounced pah-purr-mass) is a Canadian art subscription that sends you a print from a new artist or illustrator each month. Their name is a play on the Danish word for "pulp," and they were founded by two artists to help keep themselves and others inspired and motivated through art.
They share the artist name in advance each month, but never spoil the artwork. I love their colorful and modern shipping envelopes, and I get so excited to open them up and see my surprise each month.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Edition #100, Featuring Founder Hello Kirsten
For Edition #100, Papirmass is featuring someone very close to them: their founder, Hello Kirsten (Kirsten McCrea)!
I knew they'd be doing something special for their 100th edition; it's pretty interesting to learn more about one of the creative forces behind this subscription.
She shares some tidbits about her studio space and her favorite things to draw. I love pattern mixing too, so I'm really digging her style.
"Ampersand (&) #6" by Hello Kirsten
The print this month is gorgeous! It's a nice standard 8" x 10" size. I love how detailed this print is; you can see the texture of the original painting. I love how it looks very graphic and modern from a distance but you can see that it's made by hand up close.
Bright and cheerful, I can see this being a nice piece to add to a nursery gallery wall. Papirmass suggests using an 11 x 14" frame with a mat for this piece.
As usual, there's a lot of info on the back as well as some art appreciation prompts. This is one of the things I love about this subscription; it really does make me think of some things I might not otherwise consider when looking at a piece of art! It wasn't until reading these prompts that I started to notice the simplified floral pattern on the ampersand itself contrasted with the detailed and layered rose pattern in the background.
As usual, the quote pairs nicely with the artwork– in this case, the idea of "things brought together" reminding me again of the ampersand.
The back of the inspirational quote always has a small creative activity. These are perfect to keep on your desk to doodle on when you're on the phone or just need to break up your workday!
Verdict: Papirmass is simple but totally fun if you're looking for an affordable way to collect some new artwork. With the info on the back of each print and the artist interviews and quotes, I always end up feeling inspired to create something on my own. I signed up for a year at $8/month (which is an amazing deal!), but you can also join month-t0-month for $14/month (or $12/month prepaid quarterly).
Is this box still available if I subscribe today? No. If you sign up now (before April 30th), your first edition will be the May shipment.
