April 2018 Review - "Good Morning"
Parabo Box is one of my current favorite subscription boxes; they've simply never let me down. This month's theme is "Good Morning"!
8.5" x 11" Art Print & Intro Letter
I was impressed at how color-coordinated everything in this month's box was! The artwork, mug, and box all tie in together. I'm not sure where to display this print as my kitchen is already full of artwork, but I could see it being cute propped up on a vanity or maybe even in the bathroom.
The print itself is definitely a nice enough quality to keep and hang if you enjoy the style! And it's a standard size so easy to find a frame for, too.
In addition to changing their packaging, it looks like we've gotten a simplified introduction letter this month: it's on the back of the art print instead of a separate accordion zine. I am actually a fan of this change– it's easier to read and I always ended up tossing the zines anyway, which felt very wasteful.
Parabo also notes that they've gone to a "traditional" cardboard box for the subscription, instead of the magnetic box we've received in the past filled with laser cut foam. While I *loved* the presentation of the last box, I totally see why this change is also better for the planet... and how it makes room for more stuff! 🙂
Green Speckled Mug
Going along with the "Good Morning" theme, the first home item we have here is a generously sized seafoam green mug.
I've been using it at my desk for my daily second cup of coffee, and it's a nice mug to drink out of for sure. And the size is great, I think it holds about 12 ounces! It's not especially "special" in any way, though, and I'm likely to keep this at work as I've already got an over supply of mugs at home.
Gratitude Journal
I have a habit of collecting notebooks and journals, so I was really curious to learn more about this petite little book.
Did you notice this font matches the "Good Morning" print, too? These are the little touches that I love about this box! It all feels very intentional in every way, and they really pay attention to design.
The idea behind a gratitude journal is that you spend a few minutes each morning writing down a few things that you're thankful or grateful for.
The book is filled with spaces for you to date and fill in, and also inspirational quotes as you flip through. I love this; it's like a short meditation exercise and can really help set the tone for your day.
Custom Photo Print
I was a little burned out on using photos of my son for this box, so I started looking for some new ideas when it was time to select a photo. This photo is courtesy of Andy and features an adorable young deer who sometimes visits the office (and on this day, got very close and peeked through the blinds!).
While small, I love how this photo turned out, especially with the Polaroid-style cropping. The sun icon goes along with the" Good Morning" theme, too, and is metallic foil.
10" x 10" Letterboard
I'm actually surprised with how trendy these are that we haven't received one in a subscription box yet! I'm personally thrilled because I've thought about buying one multiple times but always decide I don't really need it. 😉
This is a nice letterboard, too. The frame is oak hardwood and it's very sturdy and substantial feeling. The felt-covered front part of the board is also well made and seems like it will hold up to years of new phrases.
This 10" board from Letterfolk is the same size as this one and is a similar quality, and retails for $65. (A friend has a larger board from them that I've seen in person, so I know it's comparable to this one.)
Meanwhile, Target also has a 12" x 12" option for $12.99– according to reviews, that one has a plastic board, not felt, which is likely how they can price it so cheaply. I haven't seen those boards in person, though.
The letterboard of course comes with a ton of plastic letters to break apart and use, including:
EMOJIS! Love it. Other letterboards I've considered buying usually make you buy icons and such as a separate set.
The letters on this board are about 0.75" tall and have little tabs that stick into the board with friction.
They also include a simple drawstring bag, also featuring the sun design, for you to store your letters in once they're all broken apart.
And they've added in a few gold thumbtacks too, so you can combine text with images like so:
You guys. I just love it so much! This is one of those items that has a billion different uses, from fun quotes, to photo display, to monthly baby photos or yearly "first day of school" photos... I'm sure it'll be featured on my Instagram account for years to come. 😂
If you're not feeling as inspired, don't worry– Parabo has a few fun ideas for you:
Anyone else suddenly craving cheese fries, or is it just me?
Verdict: Once again, Parabo Box has given us something totally unique in this month's box! Curating a box around custom photos seems like a real challenge, but so far they are knocking it out of the park. I love the presentation, the curation, and the overall value.
The letterboard is the big-ticket item this month, and with comparable boards being priced at over twice the price of this box ($29/every other month), I feel like I've definitely gotten my money's worth– not to mention our fun photo and journal, both of which I'm happy with.
This one is high on my "to gift" list, too, because it's such a joy to open every month and nothing feels like filler. My little sister is hoping to buy her first home this year and I feel like this is the perfect housewarming gift!
