Pearlesque Box April 2018 Review
This month's featured brand is Graydon Plant Powered Skincare from Toronto, ON. The story of how founder Graydon Moffat started in the skincare game after a complete lifestyle overhaul is pretty inspiring. From Graydon:
In creating this line of skincare, the focus of my work is to leverage the transformative power of pure plant-based ingredients to create products that are as effective and luxurious as any mainstream luxury brand. Our strategy is to fuel the body through the skin using bio-available ingredients like you'd put in your breakfast bowl (think superfoods like broccoli, berries, chia and avocado) so you will not need a science degree to read our full disclosure ingredient lists.
The other side lists the three products included, how to use them, and the retail price. They also include a #pearltip for each.
Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge - Retail Value $14.00
Oooh- I love these sponges! I am already a big fan of these and was happy to see another one that I can keep as back up for when the one I'm currently using needs to be replaced. This sponge is 100% plant-based is made from the konjac plant root which is naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber while "charcoal and bamboo help further draw out skin impurities by absorbing excess oil in your pores and eliminating dirt". When dry (as pictured) it is as light as a rice cracker or a sliver of styrofoam, but once thoroughly moistened, it softens to a squishy texture that scrubs even though it's gentle on your skin. You can use it alone or with a product like the aloe milk cleanser below...
Graydon Aloe Milk Cleanser, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $28.00
I find it coincidental that I just brought out a bottle of Graydon's Face Foam that I had waiting in the wings from a past subscription box when these products showed up. When I reviewed it back in August, I wasn't into foam cleanser at the time and preferred over-exfoliating with a grittier product. I've come a long way, and after my facialist suggested switching to foam cleansers instead of cream ones, I've converted. However, now I'm presented with this lovely aloe milk cleanser which almost feels like a lotion going on. It has a very faint yet pleasing scent to it and I've come to prefer using it in tandem with the konjac sponge to feel ultra-clean. The upside to this one is that it truly moisturizes my skin at the same time and I don't feel as dry as when I use the foam. I may start rotating this one into the mix (between foam cleanser and a more gritty product for exfoliating), especially in the winter months when my skin needs more moisture. From Graydon:
Using aloe as an active ingredient, this effective and gentle cleanser wipes away dirt, sebum, and make-up stuck deep within pores, leaving you with fresh, dewy skin. Lightly infused with Pink Grapefruit, Geranium, and Blood Orange, it has a silky smooth texture that makes it easy to apply and rinse off. Apricot Kernel oil is also particularly beneficial for aggravated skin. This lightweight and odorless oil is rich in plant phytosterols (specifically b-sisterol) which helps quell anti-inflammatory activity.
Graydon Superfood Serum, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $55.00
I keep going back and forth on facial oils, where I believe this one to fall into (even though it's labeled as a serum) due to it's thinner oil-based formula. It's packed with awesome superfood ingredients like "cold-pressed raspberry, blueberry, and cranberry seed oil, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich ingredients like kale oil, along with South American sacha inchi, goji, and chia seed oil as well as Moroccan prickly pear have also been added to brighten and hydrate skin". Now I see why Graydon's clients nicknamed her products as "salad for your skin". After cleansing, I only use one pump of the serum to spread onto my face and neck, allowing it 5-10 minutes to sink in. If I feel like I need a bit more hydration, I'll add a pump of whatever moisturizer I'm using as well (or I can mix the two to save some time). A week in and it's certainly making my skin look bright and feel soft. My only question is: why does it have two caps? We may never know.
Verdict: Pearlesque Box sent me a milky cleanser, superfood serum, and konjac sponge from Graydon Skincare totaling a retail value of $97.00 this month for a mere $39.95. I love all three products they've sent and intend to mix them into my current regimen or back stock them for future months, depending on what my skin's needs are.
