The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from Appraising Pages, which is now called The Bookish Shop. This month is the first time I've gotten the box in a shipping envelope rather than a literal box. It's super cute!

bookish box unboxing

Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only—no actual books involved. Recently, though, they changed up their game and added several subscription varieties to choose from, including one that does have a book inside!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is of the Women's Sized box that includes a t-shirt for $29.99 a month.

The Bookish Box Subscription Box "Storybook Beasts" April 2018 Review

bookish box info card

bookish box product list

Here's the info card for this month's box. Note that they list out every item that you could get with the subscription (including add-ons). In my subscription box, I got everything in the top section plus the shirt.

bookish box calendar card

Calendar Card

In January, I got a little "Calendar Kit" including an easel and just two calendar cards (for January and February). Each month since, I've received a new card for the upcoming month. I think this May one is a Prince tribute, which I'm very into!

totoro pencil case

fuzzy totoro pencil case

totoro pouch

Totoro Plush Pouch

Eeeeee! Totoro is my fave! This pouch is perfect for makeup or pens and pencils (which is what I'll probably end up using it for). It's soft as a plush toy would be and has a loop of ball chain that you can use to secure it onto a tote or backpack. Kawaii!!!

ring box

gold skull ring

Six of Crows Ring

This adjustable metal ring makes a big statement. It feels really powerful to wear. The gold color is currently really bright and eye-catching. The bird skull is a little over an inch long and rests flush against my finger. (The end of the beak pokes over my knuckle just a bit.)

rainbow bath bomb

scented rainbow bath bomb

label on bath bomb

Organica Rellc Unicorn Bath Bomb, 4 oz.

I couldn't find a price for this bath bomb on the Organica Rellc site, but a similar rainbow style (which might be a slightly bigger size, going by the photos...) goes for $12.00. It's awfully cute though and has a candy sweet fruity fragrance. It's hard for me NOT to love a rainbow-swirled anything, hehe. This bomb also has cocoa butter and coconut oil in it to help nourish your skin in the tub.

black cat pen

Nevernight Mister Kindly Pen

This cute kitty pen reminds me more of Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service, but maybe that's just because there was also a Totoro item in the box. The pen has a nice scratch to the nib and writes a smooth crisp line. Plus, it looks super cute peeking out from my pen cup!

bookish box sticker

Dragon Sticker

Next up is this big illustrated sticker, featuring a quote from Neil Gaiman. I like the colors, though the layout of the quote is a little bit confusing at first. This velvety smooth sticker is a good one for a notebook or planner cover!

bookish box mermaid

mermaid scales bookmark

Mermaid Bookmark

This illustrated bookmark is pretty and perfect for a fan of the mermaid trend. I'm not super on board with mermaids, but I do like the dreamy watercolor effects, especially on the scale side!

black bookish tshirt

lone wolf tshirt

Game of Thrones Quote T-Shirt

This is an exclusive design by Bookish Shop. I love the colors. The minty green almost looks like it should glow in the dark—I've been trying to see if it works, but I haven't seen any glowiness yet, hehe. I like the quote, too. The tee is 100% cotton and has a soft, comfy feel.

The Verdict: This month's package featured a few items that I really liked. The Totoro pouch is probably my fave, followed by the kitty pen, the ring, and the Game of Thrones tee. I'm a little bath bombed out right now—not saying they're not fun, but I've gotten/used so many over this past winter that I'm a little over them. And the sticker and bookmark were fun but didn't quite wow me. This box is full of exclusives and items that were tricky to find reliable values for online, but considering the box cost me $34.49 after shipping, each item has an average value of $4.93 (not counting the calendar card, which isn't listed as a featured item).

This was my first box from them, and I immediately unsubscribed. The shirt was way too small and smelled TERRIBLE. The smell got on the other items I received and my Totoro pouch had a torn ear 🙁

I canceled after this box. I like the t-shirts (but they shrink). Everything else is very throw away and childish.

I love this box and have been subbed for a while. Had to go on hold because I need to budget for other things. I always am pleased with The Bookish Box even if the books featured are not the ones I’ve read before. And their tees are soooooooooooooooo soooooooooooooooooooooooft.

As usual, I love the T-shirt. But sadly, I continue to find the other items less than inspiring. I still have high hopes, though! One of these days, I’m going to click on your review of this box and I’m going to see that “wow factor”. And then I will be reaching for my wallet 🙂

I feel you, Christine! This subscription is super cute but that “wow” moment isn’t there. That said, there’s something about the spirit of this box that’s super positive and fun and charming. I’m totally rooting for it, but I’d love to see if up its game juuuust a smidge.

Thanks so much for reading <3
