The Sizzle Box Subscription Box Review April 1, 2018
Here's the info booklet. Inside, there's a list of all of the products inside. I like that they provide a visual list as well as descriptions, but I feel like the box would be more fun if there was a theme or some kind of note about the curation for the month.
Did you notice that the info booklet can double as a DIY project? Slip it through a paper shredder to reveal a bonus item!
Gray Sizzle
The first item in the box is this small heap of gray sizzle. Each piece is between 4 and 6 inches long and has a nice even bend pattern. This gray color is less common in subscription boxes, so I'm surprised Sizzle Box was able to get it for their subscribers!
Brown Sizzle
I believe this pile of sizzle is made from kraft paper, which is both eco-friendly and versatile. Apart from handy packaging material, this sizzle could easily be used as nesting for birds, or hair for a haunted doll.
Pink Sizzle
I like the hot pink hue of this sizzle style. But after I pulled these 243 strands of pink sizzle out of the box, I realized that the pile they formed looked a lot like a heart. It's a little late in the season for Valentine's references, don't you think, Sizzle Box?
White Sizzle
I'm sure you can tell from the photos above that this is clearly the hero item of this box. Where the other sizzle styles in the box are crinkled and folded, these strands are cut in a lightning bolt shape. It gives them an edgy vibe that fits my personal aesthetic. I'd say the color is "cloud white", though it could be mistaken for "White House white", "bedsheet white", or "regular old egg white".
Even More White Sizzle
This really pales in comparison to the previous heap of white sizzle. These are folded rather than zig-zag cut, so each strand looks like the saddest crinkle-cut French fry you've ever seen. Not impressed.
Black Sizzle
This is my favorite sizzle in the box. Black is one of my favorite colors to wear, because of its edgy look. If I don't knit these strands of sizzle into a stylish hat, I might save it and give it as a holiday gift to beat poets and death metal fans.
Blue Sizzle
I've been impressed by how many full-size heaps of sizzle I've received in this box. That said, they only provide about half as much of this rare blue color. I don't mind a sample now and then, but for the value, I'd rather have received another more common color in a full-size and this as a bonus item. That said, the color is beautiful. If I hold the whole pile in my hand it looks like I'm conjuring superhero powers.
Here's another shot of all of the separated colors, to give an idea of scale.
Here they are laid out in case you want to compare colors.
I also swatched them, just in case.
The Verdict: While digging through this sizzle-filled subscription box was fun, I can't help but feel like the box is... missing something. I appreciated the variety of colors in the assortment they provided—they really appealed to both traditional and edgier aesthetics. I wish this box had arrived sooner so people celebrating Easter could've used the sizzle in their Easter baskets—you probably don't even need to buy any candy to go with it if you use this high-quality, carefully curated sizzle. Still, I'm glad I'll get to display this sizzle around my home. I mean that literally. I put a pile on my coffee table as an elegant centerpiece and over the past two days, the cats have scattered it all over my entire home.
To Wrap Up:
Can I get this subscription box if I sign up today? No. If you haven't realized by now, this box is an April Fools Day surprise from your friends at MSA. If anyone wants to steal the idea and start a sizzle subscription box, though, more power to you!
Value Breakdown: This box is listed for $50.00, meaning each of the styles of sizzle I received must be worth about $7.14. That's an exorbitant amount of money to pay for handfuls of shredded paper. But the brand reps did say you could barter... maybe if you offer to do their laundry or drive them to the airport, the average price would drop to something more reasonable.
