California Found May 2018 Review

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative. It also points out that they donate 10% of their profit every month to a charitable cause, and this month it's Alex's Lemonade Stand, an organization that helps fight childhood cancer. Also, the little band holding the cards together is embedded ith wildflower seeds, so it's plantable! So awesome!

Four Greeting Card Collection by Saltwater & Feathers

Four Greeting Card Collection by Saltwater & Feathers - Listed Value $20

California Found often includes handmade greeting cards from a California artisan, and these are my absolute favorite they have sent so far. They are so pretty! The one with the bear reminds me of one of my favorite regions of California, the mountains! But of course, I also love the beach scenes. The artisan behind these lovely cards is Caroline Winneguth of Saltwater & Feathers, an eco-conscious paper goods company based in Carpinteria, CA.

Pit Perfection Deodorant in Lavender Lush

Skin Ritual Pit Perfection Deodorant in Lavender Lush - Retail Value $5

Skin Ritual Hard Lotion Bar in Sweet Mimosa - Retail Value $6.99

It is a bold move to send a trial deodorant to me in May! I live in Atlanta, and by this time of the year, we are all sweating like it's our job in this heat and humidity! But this deodorant definitely passes the test! It also has a nice, light lavender scent. The lotion also has a delightful sweet citrus scent, and it is not too heavy on the skin like many lotion bars are. It's perfect for summer! Skin Ritual was founded by Brett Komanovsky, a breast cancer survivor who wanted to produce natural, non-toxic skincare products. It is based in Sierra Madre, CA.

Three Straw Set by Simply Straws - Listed Value $25

Simply Straws is a company in Southern California with an obvious intention of helping to keep plastic out of landfills and the ocean. They produce these reusable glass straws in an effort to do just that, and the straws are very high quality with a lifetime guarantee! They are also handcrafted. I really love the mission of Simply Straws! What I don't love is the safety issue... I might be accused of having an overabundance of caution, but I have a rule about rigid straws in my household. With two kids, I can easily see one of these straws ending up in someone's eye or throat. To be fair, however, this is the first item I have ever received from California Found that I have not been completely thrilled about.

16 oz Brussizzle Sprouts by Pacific Pickle Works

16 oz Brussizzle Sprouts by Pacific Pickle Works - Retail Value $9.95

I was a little concerned when I opened these pickled brussels sprouts that I would not find anyone to sample them for me, haha! Everyone in my house hates brussels sprouts. My husband volunteered, however, and he loves these! He thought they were delicious and crunchy, and he plans to use them in all sorts of salad creations. Hooray! Pacific Pickle Works is based out of Santa Barbara, CA, and guess what? They have a pickle subscription!

Sterling Silver Slim Dagle Earrings by Lulu LilyBird

Sterling Silver Slim Dagle Earrings by Lulu LilyBird - Retail Value $39

Look at how beautiful these earrings are! I love them! They are sterling silver with rose gold filled accents, an apatite stone, a moonstone, and a silver brand tag. They are just gorgeous, and so unique! Lulu LilyBird is the brand of artisan Carol Roberts, based out of Carlsbad, CA.

The Verdict: California Found has become one of my favorite subscription boxes! This month, I got some gorgeous greeting cards and earrings, along with some awesome skincare products and a treat for my husband! The straws were a little bit of a bummer for me, but I'm sure other people have no problem with rigid straws. Everything else was great! I also cannot help but notice the value of everything adds up to $105.94, which is way more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49 including free shipping!!!

Thanks, Anna for the fantastic review! The feedback we receive from the MSA audience is amazing and taken well to heart! For those of you who received this collection – the glass straws have a lifetime guarantee. If they break, reach out to Simply Straws and they’ll replace them FREE … you just pay shipping. I point all of our artisans to every review so they see your candid feedback on their individual offerings as well. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with the collections! Keep it coming!

This is literally my favorite subscription (and I have many). The items they send are always exactly my style and I use everything which I can’t say for my other subs. I was really excited about the straws and was close to buying some so I couldn’t believe it when I opened the box and saw a set of three high quality ones with the cleaning brush, so cool! The customer service they provide is also second to none.

This is my 4th box and I’m on the fence. While everything is very nice, nothing really blew me away like it has in previous months. The earrings, while beautiful, look quite similar to what we received last month and I’m starting to feel an overload on the paper goods. I do love the straws and the deodorant & lotion bar combo. Overall though, I think this is a super high-quality box with tremendous potential, and I’m in it for the long haul.

We use reusable rigid straws for the kids and have never had an issue. It cuts down on cost and helps a little bit with the environment.

I’ve never used them before but these will be used constantly and love that they are dishwasher safe.

This is my 5th box and my least favorite so far. I loved the pickled brussell sprouts but I love both pickles and sprouts. I looked at the pickle sub and for a $75 sub it’s an extra $50 in shipping. Ouch. I do love the earrings but a friend gifted me a pair almost exactly like these in the same length and color. I like these better actually. I like that they send jewelry every month. We’ve received earrings, necklaces, a ring, a hair pin.
I don’t send out as many cards as we receive but they make great extras in a swap.

Ya…I was really excited about a pickle sub until I saw that shipping cost. Yikes.

I had signed up just to try the April box and forgot to cancel so I received this box too. I realized I liked both so much, I decided to resubscribe. The only negative to me is they sent jewlery that was almost similar in color 2 months in a row and it’s a color that doesn’t really match anything in my closet.

I’m generally not a fan of getting “paper stuff” in sub boxes — I have enough cards to last a lifetime and rarely display the prints that get sent. But I LOVE those cards! I’m definitely going to have to check out that Etsy shop….and that pickle subscription!!! 🙂

Same here. I don’t mind cards as a bonus but it’s seems that they add greetings cards often. They always send items that are not in every other sub box on the market so that’s really amazing. If they have a great deal I may jump on but for now it’s a bit more then I can afford.

I know, aren’t they nice?
