Culture Carton March 2018 Review
They’ve included a welcome card with social media tags and some background for the box’s name. My husband, John, is helping me with this review by testing all of the products and giving me his perspective.
An info card with an introduction to the month’s theme and contents is included. This month is the Beau Brummell Gentleman's Box. Beau Brummell was a 19th-century English fashion icon that basically the inventor of modern men’s style and hygiene.
The lifestyle item for the month is a complete skincare set. The packaging looks really sharp with black and white labels.
Beau Brummell The Gentlemen’s Face Wash, 8 fl oz. - Retail Value $25
John likes that this cleanser comes in a pump bottle. It’s easy for him to stick in the shower and bonus, he’ll remember to use it that way. It has an herby smell and is a clear gel cleanser that washes away oil and sweat and rinses clean. John has beautiful skin that requires very little work (jealous!) but he has been growing a beard and that requires some extra care.
Beau Brummell The Gentlemen’s Facial Scrub, 4 fl oz. - Retail Value $26
This is John’s favorite item. He can’t resist anything that makes his face cool and tingly. There are crushed walnut shells in this creamy scrub for polishing power and peppermint gives it its cooling sensation. This scrubs the beard area and rinses clean without leaving grit on his skin.
Beau Brummell The Gentlemen’s Facial Moisturizer, 4 fl oz. - Retail Value $25
The challenging part of getting John to use skincare is getting him to remember to use moisturizer. This one has almost no scent and hydrates without clogging pores. The activated charcoal helps skin stay mattified and smooth all day. It also says it has some sun protection, but I don’t see any SPF rating so I think adding an extra sunscreen before going out in the sun would be a good idea. John likes that it doesn’t have a white tint and rubs in easily even over his facial hair.
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz - Retail Value $16 (Found here for $12.76)
This month’s book won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2008 and is a modern classic. John has been wanting to read this book and this was the perfect opportunity. He flew through it and really enjoyed the story and characters.

The Verdict: This Culture Carton box is a really great first box for John. He is a literary buff and was pleasantly surprised by the book selection. I’m so glad that he likes the skincare set and that the packaging and scents make him want to use the products. I’m interested to see how curation changes each month and what kinds of men’s accessories are included next time.
