FanMail "Eat Drink & Be Merry" April 2018 Review

Here's the info booklet for the box. I like how they include release dates of recommended comics, movies, and more!

fan mail geeky magazine

fan mail info card

This wasn't listed as an item of value in the product list, but I thought it was pretty cool! This booklet is kind of like a mini-magazine of pop culture articles put together by the folks behind the Sartorial Geek podcast.

fanmail fandom foods

fanmail fandom foods recipe book

fanmail recipe book open spread

fan mail monthly recipe book spiral bound

Exclusive Fandom Foods Cookbook

How cute! This spiral-bound book brings foods from your favorite movies and series to life. I've seen novels in geek boxes before but a cookbook is a first. I think it's a creative way to help people engage with the stories and characters they love. How fun would it be to serve butterbeer at your next party?!

fan mail oven mitt set

Exclusive Pop's Chock-Lit Shoppe Oven Mitts

Riverdale fans will love this set of oven mitts inspired by everyone's favorite retro hangout. I'm going to keep these hanging next to my oven—they'll be great for pulling hot pans and casserole dishes out of the oven or using as trivets in a pinch!

fan mail cooler bag

fanmail cooler lunch box

fan mail insulated lunch bag

fan mail three broomsticks bag

Exclusive Harry Potter Three Broomsticks To-Go Lunch Bag

I'm a big fan of bringing frozen foods to work that I can microwave for lunch. The only problem is making sure they stay cool on my commute! This insulated canvas bag has plenty of room for a bag of veggies for steaming, plus a sandwich, a snack, and a can of sparkling water, to boot. The Harry Potter reference makes this handy item fun and functional.

metal chopsticks set

Exclusive Mulan Mushu Chopsticks

I usually just wait and get chopsticks with takeout meals, but these metal ones will be less wasteful and a little more fun to use, given the dragon designs at the top of each stick. The velvety storage pouch is cute, too.

fanmail menu

BONUS: The Book of Dust Menu

This bonus item feels a little bit more like a promotional card than something I'd hang onto. The book is a companion story to the His Dark Materials series. The menu itself is just a pretty standard card with foods listed on it. If anything, it made me hungry reading about all of these foods!

The Verdict: I thought the food theme was cute, and I really liked the cookbook—it's something I haven't gotten in a geek box before. The products were all exclusives so I wasn't able to find a value for them online. That said, the average value based on the cost of the box is $7.39. I feel like I'd expect to pay about that for fandom-themed products like these at a store or online, so the price seems fair to me. As is typical with geek boxes, the value you perceive is kind of contingent on whether you know and love the fandoms being featured. I think this subscription does its best to mix smaller fandoms in with uber-popular ones so that no one feels totally left out by the box. Still, it's something to be aware of!
